I love the jade exchange au, but there are some things that don't make sense to me. So here's my take on this:
Jade exchange au: An au where Harumi and Lloyd swapped roles but everything else is the same.
HARUMI
Harumi grew up in a much simpler life though they weren't as fortunate as other kids. Her father worked day and night to put meals on the table and make sure their bills were paid, while her mother stayed at home to watch the young girl.
With struggles to pay their debts and rarely having food on the table, her parents decided to enroll their daughter in a boarding school that's in their budget—Darkley'. Despite it being a boarding school for boys, the principal still accepted Harumi to attend.
It was hard being the only girl in an all boys school, especially if those boys are being taught to be evil. She was also bullied and criticized for not being evil enough and was eventually kicked out without her parents' knowledge.
After this, she wanted to prove to everyone that she can be just as evil or more than her classmates. Then the rest is the start of the series but instead of Lloyd, it's Harumi. Though, the only reason Garmadon agreed to help the ninja was because a child was getting involved in something she shouldn't.
Moments after they find out Harumi is the green ninja, Wu decides to train her immediately. He had a talk with her parents and promised them that he and the ninja will take care of her. Her parents, still having financial struggles and drowning with debt, agreed. Unbeknownst to them about the struggles their only daughter would have.
LLOYD
Lloyd grew up with no father and a rarely present mother, who was always locked in her office. Her relationship with Misako wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. He would watch as she overworked herself for a research he doesn't even know about, and couldn't understand for a 10 year old.
Despite that, Misako would still try to make time with him before Cecil calls her for work or before she starts her research again.
The day Misako had a day off and had finished the important research she was working on for years, she decided to move back to Ninjago city so Lloyd could meet his uncle, Wu.
The day the great devourer struck, it unfortunately took the lives of several others, including Misako. During the attack, it caused the museum to collapse. Misako, being the gentle soul she was, prioritized everyone else's safety. But most importantly her son.
Afterwards, Lloyd knew his mother was dead when he saw no signs of her. It was only then he got clarification when the paramedics gathered the bodies of the fallen staff—including Misako. Where Lloyd got to see.
For months, he stayed in an orphanage. Until a couple came by and heard his story. The couple who had adopted him were the emperor and empress of Ninjago, who had fertility issues and wanted to have an heir in case something terrible happens to them.
Life in the palace wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. The teachers Lloyd had were strict. Every imperfection he had was changed or covered, his hair bleached into something that's almost white.
After Garmadon was stripped of all evil, he tried to send letters to his son, but unfortunately unaware of his ware abouts.
Lloyd knew about his father from his mother. Misako tried to explain why he left but in a way a child could understand. She never talked bad about him, but only said the full truth slowly until he grew older.
OTHERS
How did Wu and the ninja gain information about the island if Misako is dead?
Misako's research was sent to him in advance. Her only goal was to save her husband but still take care of her son. In this AU, she didn't plan on joining them until the final battle but still wanted her son to know her husband's side of the family.
What happened to Harumi's parents?
Her parents fortunately survived, but were injured badly. They stayed in the hospital for months until fully recovered.
Harumi and Sensei Garmadon's relationship
Without knowing about his son, he still stayed with the ninja and even helped Harumi with her training. Over time, the two developed a fatherly relationship.
What is Garmadon's reaction to Misako's death
He was upset, of course. Garmadon would go to her grave to apologize for not trying harder to stop the evil in him to take over. But he lives in peace knowing his son might be somewhere safe.
Lloyd during crystallized
Lloyd would still join Harumi and was able to unlock his oni side. The only difference with Lloyd in crystalized compared to the original, he joined the ninja early on. His relationship with Harumi is still complicated. She sympathized with him but never fully forgave him for the damages he had caused her, while Lloyd still blamed her for releasing Phytor and the death of his mother. They only tolerated each other for the sake of everyone.
This means JadeWolf canon.

Okay so I was just listening to Epic on loop while writing the first chapter, and Open Arms came on at that scene and it made me audibly gasp but I just went with it.
Little Wolf works really well with the scene! Much better than Open Arms lol.
Ninjago Strings of Fate AU Shitpost
Strings of Fate is my Jade Exchange au! I only have two chapters posted on AO3. This is because I impulsively wrote those before making a plot outline. Like an IDIOT—
So now I’ve made up lore connecting to Dragons Rising Source Dragon lore, slightly tweaked the First Spinjitzu Master’s lore, and am currently making a plot outline for every. Single. Episode. Of Ninjago. I also have a prequel fic planned for this au where it shows Lloyd’s time at Darkley’s and all the shit that goes down there. Because yes, a LOT goes down there that contributes to his overall character in Strings of Fate.
Anyways have some SoF Harumi and Lloyd sketches
Harumi is strategic in both canon and this au. Her hairstyle reflects this as well. Even a ponytail can get in one’s way from time to time, so she chooses a bun to keep her hair out of her face. This also ties into her Jade Princess persona in canon—Harumi’s Jade Princess persona in canon was her “good” persona, while her Quiet One persona was known to be her villainous one. Her bun reflects her stance on morality, and is a parallel to her canon Jade Princess hairdo. In this au, she is morally good for the most part, just as Canon Harumi’s Jade Princess persona was.

Do I sound insane? It’s because I am—
Harumi in the workshop/warehouse with Nya! She’s in baggy sweatpants because she can. In a tank top because stuff gets wild and she doesn’t want another shirt of hers to get scorch marks on it. Also in sneakers because there’s no way she’s gonna be wearing her combat boots while helping Nya build mechs.
Fun fact! The scars on her arms are from magma burns back in the Temple of Fire!
S9/Hunted Harumi! Due to Lloyd’s…special type of chaos, she’s more stressed out than usual. Her hair is undone and messy to symbolize this.
Why did my artstyle change? It changes every two business days, okay? 😭

Okay here are the Lloyd pics:
This is when I first figured out my design, or, “mask” for Lloyd. This mask is NOT the same as when he’s in his Jade Prince “mask”. His hair would be slicked back then. Alas, I have no idea what this hairstyle but slicked back would look like, proportion-wise, so I can’t sketch it unless I figure that out. This design is more for when he’s hanging with the Ninja, before the reveal that he’s actually a not-so-morally-correct type of guy: still decently well-kept, but not as uptight or royalty-perfect as he is when he’s in his Jade Prince mask.
(I like calling them masks because slight Oni mention/reference and also a deeper meaning that I may or may not share depending on my mood).

And here’s a slightly more finished Lloyd sketch that I used no references for. Not even my own previous sketches. I was trying to draw Lloyd consistently, but at the time I was unable to find my previous Lloyd sketches. This was sketched yesterday.
and before you ask, yes these are all on assignment papers. And yes I will eventually have to turn in the math worksheet that the first sketch is on. Unless I cut out the part with the sketch. The Harumi sketches were all on a page in my school sketchbook for art class.

If Garmadon is still Lloyd's dad and Wu's brother, that means Lloyd is still the descendant of the First Spinjitzu Master, regardless if he is the Green Ninja or not. Then he should have powers. How is Harumi related to Lloyd? Because I thought that only a descendant of the FSM could wield the Golden Power (Overlord nonwithstanding. He is simply a machine, a virus, not organic) If Haruni is the GN, how can she wield it? And if Garmadon is Destruction, Wu Creation, and Rumi Energy, what is Lloyd?
Damn, this is a really good question. UmmmmmMMMM, I don’t know. I want to say that Garmadon and Wu are not related to the FSM, and instead, Harumi is the descendant. But I also do want Garmadon and Wu to have elemental powers... you can tell I made this AU on a whim and didn’t really plan out the specifics whoops
