Couple wins award for exquisite jade-carvings of Chinese delicacies
A couple from Zhejiang Province won the Best craftsmanship prize at China’s professional jade-carving competition on Saturday for their exquisite table of delicacies.
Zhang Shuzhang and his wife, Zhang Yuchun, who have been carving jade for over 12 years, created 120 different Chinese dishes for the competition. Their creations cost them more than 20 million yuan (around 3 million US dollars), and not only won applause from visitors but also saw a number of jade distributers bidding to buy the sculptures.
The couple, however, is unwilling to sell, given the painstaking effort that went into creating them.
“See this braised pork in brown sauce. I am proud of it, and did not want to sell it, although there was a jade lover who bid 100,000 yuan last year,” Zhang Shuzhang told local reporters.
The photos of their sculptures have become a viral hit on social media in China, with many praising their craftsmanship.
“Exquisite carved sculptures leave a good name forever!” posted @Aoxiangdexiongying118.
“They can be used to mix with the real dishes,” joked @Xinmaaibaobao.
“So terrific! Rich men can do everything they like,” commented @Zhuoriyan.
