The Worth of Gold Summary
(this is a summary from oct 17, 2013. written before the story, so it’s more what I had planned to write, not what the story necessarily is.)
Jadesh is pulled from the slums of Greenrock as a young child. Her future of scraping barnacles from the docks is traded in for the promising one of an Imperial Mage. Between her skill and power with magic, and the natural blessing of her eyes, she is set on the fast track to reach the top. When things work out in her favor the matchmakers pair her with a member of the highest caste, a prince of no threat to the empress, it becomes clear just how high her plans can take her.
Time and war though have a habit of changing things, the prince is banished, and she gets sent to the front lines of a war. Removed from the iron rigidity of life on the islands she begins to question those above her.
Eventually, this comes to light and she loses favor with the life she had worked so hard to achieve. A big mouth and a hard ego finds her on the deck of a Trader ship.
Yin is the captain of the Goldspray, and the head of the Sea Traders, or as everyone the world over knew her as, the pirate queen. Jadesh has found herself on her ship, deep in debt and a prisoner of war.
After a few deals, she is no longer a prisoner but no longer free to return to her old life, and still deep in debt. (she lost a bet with Yin). She has grown to like the fast paced and ever changing life of a Trader, and has become a valuable member of the crew.
When Mur shows up with a request, and Yin receives a communication from the mysterious Painted Lady, plans greater than Jadesh had are set in motion. She ends up training mages, help place a new person on the throne of the empire, overthrow the current rule of the city of Riverport, and most importantly help the pirate queen herself hand over control.
