Yeehawgust 2025 - Day 1 - Stars of the Midnight Range

Drawn in Procreate, based off a photo I took a few years back in the Alabama Hills in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

Had another drawing session at work today, this time Yzma.  Mine didn’t turn out all that great, but it was fun anyway! XD

We had another learn to draw session today at work, this time with animator Steve Thompson, who walked us through drawing Ursula.  It was fun!  And a nice break between several tedious two-hour-long meetings today.

At work today, we had a team event where an animator, Michael Woodside, came in and did a zoom ‘learn to draw’ session with us.  We drew Mushu and this is how mine came out.  Not exactly high art, but it was fun!

I haven’t done much drawing in a long while, but it was really refreshing to do something creative on the company dime when my job is 100% technical.

Aiata - Threat Display

So, I was on a roll this week with the drawing and decided to draw Aiata in a full-body pose, too.  She’s very angry!  I pity whomever she’s about to hammer those claws and forelegs down upon.  They’re gonna get their telson whupped.

I based her aggressive stance off the behavior of actual coconut crabs when fighting.  They heavily involve their forelegs in their attacks, raising them in threat and then striking out with them often before ever resorting to their claws.

Aiata is an original character from the Rīpekanga fanfic series about Tamatoa and her coloration is based off this female coconut crab.

Greasy Charm

I went ahead and finished one of those sketches from the other day!  The “Greasy Charm” title is a nod to how @raptor-moon described Tamatoa in one of her fics. ;)
