During this process I've learned a lot, and for once I can say that I'm truly seeing the benefits of what life can look like and how amazing it can feel when you actively take accountability for your actions, and the results that follow. The love that I've been getting from other people during this healing process has allowed me to go deeper into myself, and my work. - I'm learning to be still while being uncomfortable. - The topics that I choose to focus on in this show are extremly important, so I'm excited to share new work with you! - "Man Up" Photo Exhibit by Jah Grey The work I created is situated in the resistance to the ideology of hyper-masculinity. In a society built on systems of oppression that aim to control us, dictate our bodies, our identities, where we belong, and how we feel, we all experience varying levels of alienation, erasure and through acts of conformation - self-erasure. Though confirmation can also be empowering, even necessary to survival, the byproduct can be the internalization of these problematic systems. This work will be a reflection of this, both figuratively and literally. What I hope to achieve with this project is an evaluation of the internalized systems of oppression, set in place particularly to be critical of the black body. I’m afraid of what I feel. I’m afraid of being vulnerable. I’m afraid of not being validated. I’m afraid of not being accepted. I AM afraid of me.

Change is scary and sometimes I find myself wanting to hold on to the old me, because that’s all I’ve ever known. Isn’t it so f*cked that for some reason there’s a part of you sometimes that still wants to hold on to toxicity?
.
As I continue on my journey of healing, calling myself out and unpacking my toxic behaviors, I’ve recently learned how important it is to hold intimate relationships with other men. I don’t think men understand how extremely important and helpful it is to build healthy relationship with the men around them.
.
Every time I look at the images that I capture of men who choose to share their vulnerabilities, their mistakes, their flaws and insecurities, it forces me to continue to look into myself, unpack and relearn.
.
It forces me to sit in the uncomfortable.
.
Repeat because repetition is key: Sitting in the uncomfortable is hard but its necessary for growth.
