so you are from belgium and have to be faced with zwarte piet as well. I'm from holland. i so hope that they will change the appearance of zwarte piet. i am pro having colored petes, like pink/blue/red/green. Kids would love that. and hell some traditions need to stop. we need to do more to respect others.
hey! you’re right: zwarte piet is racist. though I have to admit, it took me way too long to acknowledge that, and in Belgium we (white people) are still way more protective of zwarte piet and his appearance than you guys in The Netherlands. it took a long time for the ‘controversy’ to rise in Belgium. we are at the stage of roetpieten now - as children, we all learned that zwarte piet is black due to the soot from the chimney - and regenboogpieten still raise a lot of eyebrows. while I agree that blackface is never an option, it’s frankly scary to see pieten with a full on blue face etc, anddd so much more of his appearance is racist. the big red lips? the hoops? the rest of his clothes? a lot more of decostructing needs to happen before Sinterklaas wouldn’t be a racist children’s festival anymore, and while zwarte piet’s appearance is a really important point, look for example at song lyrics like ‘ook al ben ik zwart als roet, ‘k meen het toch goed’. disgusting

Whiplash writing and the fact that "anyone could play the character" Yeah someone is tired of being jerked around. "Hellacious schedule." This season "hasn't found its footing" Oh gee...
