For whoever to whom it applies.

Jaira is my only primary character that wears makeup like, at all, so this is all her.

Fancy events

Your typical natural-look makeup, for the most part. She might have slightly more dramatic lipstick and blush if the event in question is giving an address at Court - but that’s more stage makeup than just regular-wear cosmetics. A lot of people would be looking at her, especially at a distance, so she would want to look her best; since the audience wouldn’t be closer to see her battle scars, anyway, she doesn’t avoid covering them like she usually would in these situations.

Even then, though, whether she’s wearing too much is a constant concern for her. Being in her early twenties as an elf, one of the biggest image liabilities she has to deal with is being perceived as a frivolous child. She would probably wear more with her formal getup if she thought she could get away with it - she likes dressing up.

Daily life

On the conservative side of the “natural” look; since she can be called on to fight at any given time, she avoids makeup that might run if she starts to sweat heavily.

If she’s confident that she can and will be at her desk all day, she generally takes the time to apply lipstick, contour, and mascara. However, she is very careful not to hide all of her battle scars - as mentioned above, being perceived as a kid putting on airs is a real concern of hers. Visible proof that her sword and armor aren’t just for show is something she considers essential to how she presents herself to the world.

💎- Is your muse drawn to things that sparkle?

Arth not so much, unless you include steel and Holy magic. He’ll talk about the brightness of a sword and the gleam of the sun on helms and speartips, but that’s not really about sparkles so much as it is his martial aesthetic.

Syll and Jaira, though, absolutely yes.

Syll

Other than being a poster girl for attention deficient “ooh, shiny!” Syll is incredibly ego-driven. While her vanity tends toward the opposite direction (she deliberately avoids overt displays of wealth in hopes people won’t remember that her mother was nobility), she sees tangible success as a direct reflection of personal worth. Deep-seated insecurity resulting from not *actually* being self-made and paranoia that her peers hate and/or look down on her therefore contributed to obsessive pursuit of such tangible success - the most obvious of with is wealth.

That said, she also loves pretty things on their own merits, and always has - arguably even more so before her mental state collapsed and left her with aforementioned insecurities, innocent as she was. Her affection is easily bought (or at least rented) with such things, and she loves the eye-catching gleam of gems and precious metals, or even a particularly interesting and well-polished common stone.

Jaira

On the other side of the coin, and contrary to what one might think, Jaira loves shiny things for what they add to an overall aesthetic. While she abhors garishness (at least by Silvermoon standards), she delights in the added... *something* that gemstones and precious metals add to an ensemble. She’d never admit it, but she privately laments that her carefully crafted image as pragmatic and no-nonsense prescribes almost Marcher-level reserve in her wardrobe and décor.

It might be too much to say she’s drawn to things that sparkle - she doesn’t have the impulsive “look see touch” approach to pretty things that Syll does - but she certainly seeks them out when she wants to add that certain sometimes to an outfit or decoration.

What is your character’s birthday?

August 14, 15 AD (RL: 1995)

Do they celebrate it? If so, how?

Not usually, being a workaholic and self-conscious about her stoic, no-nonsense image. If she does, it’s a very small family event - unless, of course, she sees an opportunity to use it to social or political advantage, in which case she’ll plan a suitably dignified soirée and a strategy-based guest list. Obviously, she would never do the latter as a front to spend time with friends outside of work, because she doesn’t need friends. Obviously. Nothing but strategy going on here.

How did you, he writer, pick this date?

I like the number 14, too, and August was named after Augustus Caesar - the epitome of what Jaira wants to be.

Is this character’s personality influenced by their birthdate?

Other way around.

The Shape of Pain: Jaira

You hide your pain behind a mask. Maybe you feel you can’t be helped, maybe you think no one cares, maybe you don’t want to hurt anyone else with it, you’re afraid of being judged, or maybe there’s another reason.

But whatever the reason, you fake a smile and try to function normally even though you’re one step away from falling apart. Secretly, you wish someone would notice it’s a mask, ask you if you’re really okay, see right through it and make it okay somehow. You’re hurt and a little angry that no one’s noticed yet, but you’ll never admit it.
