Promoting Steam Punk Santa and The Spark Catchers
Group 10
Harry Barnett, Jamel Bond and Alex Doody.
Today our company had a short discussion with Rhiannion about how we can promote the 2nd year actors’ Christmas show “Steam Punk Santa and The Spark Catchers”.
What can we do to promote the Christmas show?
Hand out leaflets to households. With a fantastic designed leaflet, it will definitely attract the attention of parents who have children.
Knocking on people’s doors. This is a great way to advertise the showing because the majority of people answer their front doors. Therefore knocking on doors could help promote the show and sell more tickets.
Go out into town centres/shopping centres and use our talking skills as actors to hand out leaflets while giving lots of information about the show. This is a very good way to promote the show because as actors, we can talk in a very friendly way to the families which will persuade them to come and watch the show. Also, families out on weekends in shopping centres and town centres, many of them will have children with them, this will interest the children because all children love Christmas.
Rhiannon sent us off to promote the show by visiting old schools, sending letters, make phone calls and visit our old schools to kindly ask them if they could organise school trips for the pupils to come along to see the Christmas show.
What did we do to promote the Christmas show?
Myself and Jamel went to Dartford town centre with flyers which we handed out to some elderly people, parents with children and anyone who seemed interested in theatre work. While Alex headed back to his old school to promote the show.
When we handed out the leaflets, we made sure that we mentioned they get a free ticket for every 2 they purchase to come see our show called “Brown” which will be performed in January. We also mentioned that everyone sitting in the first 3 rows will receive free ice-cream when they dress up. We made sure that we mentioned this to people who had children with them because children love Christmas, ice-cream and dressing up.
I managed to attract the interest of 4 people in the space of 30 minutes. This may not be a lot of people but each person seemed interested in what I was telling them. Me and Daniel Gray paired up and went about Dartford town centre to promote the show. We managed to attract 1 person who seemed very happy and eager to see the show from what we told her about the play.
I also made a phone call to my previous secondary and primary school. I am waiting to hear from them.
Myself, Jamel and Alex agreed for Alex to go to his former secondary school to promote the tickets. He was asked to hand over a flyer and his contact details so the head teacher could contact him about a meeting on Monday.
Overall, I think it has been a good result considering we only had a couple of hours to do so. We hope we can be successful when selling tickets to keep our theatre alive.
