Stephanie Mills - Never Knew Love Like This Before [1980]

Born Stephanie Dorthea Mills to Joseph and Christine Mills and raised in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Mills sang gospel music as a child at Brooklyn's Cornerstone Baptist Church. Mills began her professional career at age nine, appearing in the Broadway musical Maggie Flynn. After winning Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater six weeks straight at age eleven, Mills went on to become the opening act for the Isley Brothers.

Mills's career took a rise when she portrayed Dorothy in the seven-time Tony Award winning Broadway musical The Wiz, an African-American adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The song "Home" was first performed by Mills in the stage production and would be covered later by Diana Ross for the movie adaptation three years later.

"Never Knew Love Like This Before" is a 1980 song written and produced by songwriters James Mtume and Reggie Lucas for American R&B recording artist Stephanie Mills's fourth studio album Sweet Sensation (1980). According to Lucas's wife, Kay, the song was inspired by the birth of their baby daughter, Lisa.

There's a systematic elimination. Take the lead singer out the group and the group dies: Jackson 5, Commodores, Rufus, LTD. Why are there no black bands? Other than the Roots who I love, name 3 more. Bands represent the root and fundamental community of a musical form. There was EWF, Kool & the Gang, Ohio Players, Slave, P-funk.
