James Quillus: James is someone who made on really bad choice that snowballed in to something that would haunt him for a long time. Although kind hearted and well meaning, James can have a temper if you push him. A lot of the time, James is secretive. He hides what he is, what he did, and who he is “working” with. Feeling like no one would understand, or that he would be turned in, or simply that it would mean he has to face all these things he does not want to face. His Warlock Patron, Shothrogot, has mysterious plans for James, and whenever James does not do what it wants, it punishes him. James eventually turns more beastly on the outside, although his personality was not affected much (yet).  The Bird and the Worm by The Used (Post-Hardcore/Emo): I was struggling to think of a track to put first, to briefly represent James right before he stole the book that gave him his powers. Then I saw this song in my Spotify and went “Yes!”. The mention of the backpack invokes the feeling of being in school, then the rest of the song simply describes being full of anxiety. James is not doing well, and the only thing that ended up being there for him happened to be a Great Old One. “All he knows, if he can't relieve it, it grows “ Dark Passenger by Holy Grail (British Heavy Metal-Inspired): I think the chaos of this song is a good representation of the events following the person James ended up murdering. It reflects, not only the uncertainty of what taking this book means, but the uncertainty in where James’ mind is. “Slipping into darkness, feel that cold, cloudy air“ Bad Dreams by Joywave (Synth-chill/Pop): This one is about the consequences of James’ actions on the city scale. They are now looking for him, and he is on the run. Although James is not much of a danger, people shouldnt worry about him. This song also coincidentally can relate to James returning with the knowledge he has gained, but no one wanting to listen. “Here they come on down the street. With their torches in the air, they've got it out for me” Sequels, Remakes, and Adaptations by Spanish Love Songs (Midwest Emo) (Explicit): This one is more about the duality of James. Where he, literally, has another being (basically) inside of him. Specifically, this is James wondering if he is truly dangerous. If this Old One is corrupting him, or using him to corrupt others. It shows how he is worried he could be dangerous to his own party. (I also really wanted to put a SLS on here, bc I love SLS.) “A heritage, an excuse, or a black spot in my blood, like a shooter in a dark room waiting. I don’t want to let him out” Keep Them Close by The Paper Melody (Rock/Pop Punk/Post-Hardcore): This track is about the secrets James hides to avoid prosecuting himself, or scaring others away. If he does not end up telling someone, it will just get worse and worse. It also shows how he could possibly be getting darker the longer he has his Patron. “Little one, answer me this: How did you build your walls so high?” Night Guilt by Sløtface (Punk): This one represents James’ thoughts when he tries to sleep (and eventually, when he can not sleep). There is also a little bit of wondering why he should feel guilty about stopping a horrible person. The imagery of owning a debt, and relating that to ‘pennies on my eyes’ really revolves around death. “Scribbles in pen. Whispers behind your back. Welcome to the club, sign that pact”       Sandstorm by Derude (Techno? EDM? idk): The Funky Librarian. “dododododo dododododo dodododododo” Be Still by The Killers (Alternative): I think this is the Lily Song for James. I think most of my Playlists have had a Lily Song in some form. And that is because this song is someone telling James how he is a good person, that he can be better than his Patron. This is also the strongest representation of the friendships that grew with the other Heroes of Bingle. Be still, one day you'll lead. Fearlessness on your sleeve.” Virus by Priest (Synthpop): This is Shothrogot’s song to James. At least, from James’ perspective on what he thinks It wants. “ When you turn the lights off, in the night, I'm the shivering feeling“  When Demon’s Come To Life by Halocene ft. Lauren Babic (Explicit) (Rock/Metal): This one is multiple things. There is the obvious metaphor in it, with the whole mental thing. But, in this instance, I like to take it sorta literally! Specifically, later on when James actually starts showing signs of being a Demon. I also liked the idea of ending the playlist with a big sounding song. I think this song ending the playlist has the same uncertainty as the HoB ending we got. “Fear overcomes me when I realize it’s only me”
