the way james studebaker both constantly denies herself a life she feels is worth living through inaction and hesitation in asserting her identity and passions and IS DENIED ONE by the forces around her to the point where she starts acting out in ways that aggressively assert her assumed role within the existing system (inserty shirt off james drinking moment here - masculinity as am assumed role that feels awkward to fill) just to have any kind of power and doing that to the point of erasing herself as a method of exerting power within that system + finding a new interest in life as something entirely disconnected from her old life yet still connected to her base identity in the form of strix its like. hello. hello can anyone hear me. please for the love of god becoming a shade is about the dehumanization that marginalized people face and james (ostensibly a cis guy throughout poprock season 1) going through that same process as ursula-ursa did but still in a far lesser capacity than ursula-ursa due to the system not existing as such any more (also can be read in terms of racialization as well and hpw that wouldn't apply to studebaker.?). and yet still dealing with that terrible and empty life where she abandons everything that she loves and wants to do in poprock season two cos it wasnt ever truly tearing it all down. can anyone FUCKING hear me. fuck.
