The James Taylor Quartet | Benenden Chapel Choir - Te Deum - this groovy setting (and liberal interpretation) of Te Deum, with children's choir, sounds like something I'd see on Sunday morning TV in the 70s
Following the February release of James Taylor’s ‘Shadows and Dreams’, a homage to his love of classical music, he continues his series of radical projects with the announcement of ‘Te Deum’, a new James Taylor Quartet album in collaboration with the Benenden Chapel Choir. Out 29 May, ‘Te Deum’ sets the ancient, 4th century Christian text to intense jazz, funk, and Latin grooves. It sees the James Taylor Quartet working alongside the children of the Benenden Chapel Choir, with a guest horn section and legendary Acid Jazz percussionist Snowboy. Celebrating his 40th year leading the Quartet, James Taylor has resigned with Acid Jazz, embarking on a series of exciting projects, which will culminate in a third release later this year. “It’s so inspiring to work with a label completely open to mixing things up; classical, choral, funk, jazz, whatever,” said James. “If it sounds good then let’s have it. We are well happy with the Benenden collaboration because the kids were already very strong musicians. We gigged the stuff together and it worked so we decided to record it. Again, something new and different. Hope you like it half as much as we do.”
