The first time Lily saw Sirius in his animagus form she had no idea it was him. It was a regular Hogsmeade trip in her seventh year until she was on her way back to the castle. She ran across a dog she thought was a stray and ended up spending a good twenty minutes giving it pets until James caught up with her. The dog darted for the treeline as soon as James arrived and it wasn’t until Lily saw Sirius shift that she realized Sirius had been stalling her.

Lily didn’t really struggle with preweding jitters. She expected to. All throughout the planning phases she wondered if they could make it, and in weak moments she wondered if James was the one for her, but during the practice dinner she sat back and found a moment of clarity. Watching James chat with his parents, seeing how at ease everyone was at their table, warmed her. When he looked over at her, bringing her back into the conversation, she didn’t doubt it anymore.

James loved her, and she loved him. They’d make it work, no matter what.
