a warm smile clung to her mouth as she waited for the water to boil in the kitchen she now shared with another. she was the last person who should've been there, but the blonde couldn't stomach another doordash delivery and paste was simple enough. at least, the instructions seemed simple and the hunger stirring in her stomach was as convincing as anything.
"hey," she called out, blindly greeting the man as she heard the door click open and then shut again, followed by the sounds of oncoming steps. the floorboards creaked differently between his weight than hers, something she'd noticed a couple days into him moving in. "i'm making spaghetti." she paused, her smile widening as she turned to fully face him. "well, trying to. it's like, as simple as it gets."
boil noodles, stop when they're soft, open up the can of sauce, pour sauce onto noodles, and plate. simple, wasn't it? and yet, there was a fear stirring within her, along with hunger, that she'd somehow manage to screw it up, because that was what prudence tatum fleury did the best. according to her family, at least.
"if you hate spaghetti, then there's frozen pizza too. i made a list of things i'm picking up at the grocery next," she trailed off, nodding towards the list she'd started that was on the back of her first week's paystub. "if you want to add to it, you can, or you're welcome to tag along too."
it was an offer that she halfway hoped that he'd accept. the grocery store was a place she hadn't gone to often before everything fell to crap. she was the kind of person who'd plug in an order as needed and be thankful when it showed up on her doorstep a few hours later.
Hunter was looking for some more clothes to add to his wardrobe? Did he need more things? No, probably not but he thought that it would be fun to just see what was at the thrift store. And not only was it fun to look at the clothes, a lot of people got rid of stuff they were no longer interested in. Which did Hunter need more things? Absolutely not but he still liked to look. He looked at the guy next to him. "I feel like thrift stores like this are the true definition of one person's trash is another person's treasure!" He laughed.

PERSONALITY
At one time James used to be outgoing but these days he's a bit more on the reserved and mellow side. He uses music as a way to escape from the world around him, getting lost in his collection of vinyl records, and hours sitting behind his drums playing. However, he is quite friendly and those that are close to him tend to get to see a bit more of his relaxed and goofy side.
For as long as he can remember, music had always been a part of James' life. From an early age he begged his parents to take lessons on various instruments, and the one that had always stuck with James, was the drums. Between that and listening to his parents old records for hours growing up, all things music became his life. His family was small but close, his parents high school sweet hearts and an older sibling that James had always looked up too. The days of his childhood was simple but easy, they might not have always had much but they had each other.
During his school years, James was always quite active in as many clubs as he could get his hands on. Jazz band, Student Council, Yearbook- Sports were never quite his thing but was always in the stands cheering on the school teams. In his junior year, James started to date one of his close friends, their relationship becoming something that has been on and off again over the years.
Once he graduated, it came to no surprise that he was headed off to Merrock Community College to study music- a focus on music composition and percussion. However, it was during this time that James started to question himself, if he was really good enough to make his passion into his career. There were so many people that were more talented than him and on a whim, James dropped out before his third year of college. And without telling another, at the age of 21, he enlisted in the Army.
Much to his surprise and those around him, James thrived being in the Army. He loved the chance of getting to see the world, adored the comradeship he developed with those in his troop, and ended up staying in the Army longer than he originally planned. At first it had simply been something else to give himself to do, unsure if music was still his thing or not, but found himself wanting to make a career out of the Army.
Finally after eight years, James was headed towards getting out of the military. All that stood between him and coming home for good was one last mission with his troop, a mission that would change the course of James' life forever. The stakeout that they had been on went horribly wrong and James was too close to everything, he was injured greatly, and spent several weeks in a hospital overseas before being shipped home. Once back in Merrock, James spent a few more weeks in the hospital and then finally got the news that because of the accident, he had sustained a traumatic brain injury, one that seemed to affect his memory quite a bit.
But now it has been six months since he's been fully out of the hospital and his main goal is figuring out his new normal when it comes to life. While it might not have been the life he had always pictured for himself, James is taking it in stride, and doing all that he can to push forward.

if ronnie was going to do this, beer definitely needed to be involved. taking her spot at one of the high top tables, she wondered for a moment why she came in the first place. the thought was interrupted by james' presence, ronnie nodding her head toward the other large mug across from her. "i got you something big and something craft. i don't know if your taste has changed too, but."
