A bit of a history lesson for you kids out there: if you run in fangaming circles, you may know about Sonic: Before the Sequel, but long ago, before that game existed, the hotness was Sonic: Time Attacked by Jamie Bailey.
Somebody out there has decided to try and remake Sonic: Time Attacked using the Sonic MAX Game Maker engine (with permission from Jamie, of course).
Itโs not a total remake, as you can tell -- it seems itโs mostly going to keep the original graphics and original level layouts where applicable, with the added benefit of having more accurate physics.
Back when Time Attacked first came out and I was getting in to learning FL Studio, I made a bunch of MP3s for the Time Attacked soundtrack (before Falkโs amazing Before the Sequel soundtrack, we had @dragonxvi). But this was like, 2004, and finding web hosting for a fangame with tons of digital music was a lot harder than it is today. So they stood as just something passed around by fans in the know while the game itself continued to ship with a MIDI soundtrack.
Long story short, when I saw this remake, I decided I could give the Time Attacked soundtrack a once over. So hereโs one of those. I know I have a tendency to redo old songs a lot, but I havenโt attempted redoing the Time Attacked soundtrack in something like 11 years (largely because I misplaced the MIDIs).
For reference, hereโs what the original 2004 MP3 for this song sounded like. If you donโt think they sound hugely different, well... on some level, theyโre not supposed to. I was actually pretty happy with how my original MIDIs came out, and redoing them is more about tightening some bolts just a little bit. Cleaner rendering settings, higher bitrates, better drums, things like that. Not a remix, just a better mastering.
Anyway, hopefully Iโm doinโ right by those that matter.
I did most of the leg work on this one yesterday, but it needed more tweaking and better synth work before I was happy. But I did that! So here it is.
2004 version.
