10/03/18 Inktober, Day 3: Roasted, @girlinspacepodcast I was trying to find a parallel from the #inktober prompt #roasted to a person, place, or thing in #audiodrama. Then I was struck by the connection of ROASTED coffee beans to one of my favorite characters from the Girl in Space, Intern Dani Weiss (voiced by #JamieKillen). The main character X, introduces Dani to the magical elixir known as coffee. Dani quickly becomes obsessed by the dark nectar of the gods. I imagine Dani at a workspace in the Glass House. She has her all the materials laid out, and the equipment staged. Her process is by the utmost rigorous scientific standards, or some may even compare it to a religious ritual. First she roasts the small amount harvested beans over a bunsen burner, then grinds them down with a mortar and pestle. Carefully she pours the grounds into a make shift filter inside a suspended funnel, then adds hot water. She allows the grounds to steep, steam rises filling the room with the strong smokey scent. Dani inhales the vapor deeply, as the coffee drains slowly through funnel into the beaker. After the last drop falls Dani takes the glassware in her hands and slowly raises it to her waiting lips.
