Okay, the writers of Fuller House still like to pull out lines like “I feel like you’re my sister.” as if it’s supposed to dissuade us from shipping it. I mean, I get why they don’t want to give the idea that two teens living under the same roof could be hooking up.
You know why I still ship it? Because either of them suggesting the other is like a sibling could easily be a misdirect from how they really feel.
It reminds me a little bit of a line from Jeff/Annie scene in Community where Jeff says “It’s a crutch. It’s a way for me to tell you how important you are from a distance.”
You could see just how brokenhearted they were in that scene in Jackson’s room. Maybe the sister thing was a way for him to express how strongly he felt for her without revealing it as anything more than platonic. It could be a ‘crutch’ or a flat out lie. He might even be lying to himself, to remain in denial because being in love with her could get too complicated.
It also reminded me of Barry/Iris (another pairing who grew up in the same house) from The Flash. Iris said in the first episode that they were “kind of like brother and sister”. Same deal. And they’re married now, soooo...
