Thoughts after celebrating 100 with a very special lady.
She was a prisoner of war when she was 14, she was taken to Germany to work on the farm because so many Germans went off to war they needed people to help with agriculture.
She said everyone who worked on the farm ate together. She said they just got the rubbish/scraps and everything was cooked together in one big pot. Everyone got a spoon and ate together out of one bowl.
Her brother was only 9, he got to stay with their mother.
She told me I have to tell Nan the secret to living until she is 100, she has to take care of herself and eat 5 small meals a day, stop when you're full. Not too much junk but one piece of cake each day is good. She likes vanilla cake, she doesn't like chocolate cake. And she said cabbage is very important and good for you. She described how she cooks it but has invited me to come watch her cook and learn from her.
Feeling very blessed to share life with some very interesting people.
