Kennedy Jr. poses in his underwear and a fur blanket with a dagger tattoo sketched on his bicep in photos taken by Jane Drummond during their years together at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1983. The tattoo was of the non-permanent kind due to his mother Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' objections to body ink, though John later had a small shamrock tattooed on the back of his right shoulder following his mother's passing in 1994. At the time JFK Jr. had aspirations to become an actor (he appeared in numerous plays while at Brown) and he later had a long-term relationship with actress Daryl Hannah, but his mother nixed the idea and encouraged him to pursue American studies instead. He eventually earned a law degree in 1990, going on to work as an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan DA's Office for four years before switching gears entirely and launching the political and cultural magazine George in 1995. Jane kept the revealing photos she took of John filed away for almost two decades until after his tragic passing at the age of 38 in a plane crash off the coast of Martha's Vineyard on July 16th, 1999 (Kennedy's wife of three years Carolyn Bessette and her older sister Lauren also died in the accident). Following the crash, Drummond dug out the photos and sold them to US magazine, various tabloids, and other media outlets. "He wouldn't object to their publication now for the same reasons he sat for the photos," Jane explained at the time after receiving criticism from certain quarters for releasing the pics. "He was very self-confident and somewhat of an exhibitionist." Well-received by those who admired JFK Jr. (who was voted People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1988 and considered a heartthrob due to his classically tall, dark and handsome good looks, inherited from his mother's dashing playboy father, John Vernou "Black Jack" Bouvier III), the photoshoot was soon after dubbed "The Prince of Camelot" series.
