On Beer and Jane
Since Maura got her own post about wine, I suppose it's only fair that Jane get her own post about beer, right?
Right.
With the exception of Jane's sudden love for Blue Moon in season 4 (why hello, fancy product placement!), at the moment I can't remember any specific beers that Jane's mentioned in the show - and if you can remember any, feel free to let me know. Even so, mentioned names would likely be made up anyway, much like the 1994 Château de Gordes mentioned in Maura's wine post.
Enough rambling, though. Here are some fun beer resources and information.
Beer & Brewing Terminology: alphabetized list of common terms
Difference between ales and lagers: a more scientific explanation of the difference between them
Ales, Lagers, and then some: types of lagers, types of ales, microbrews, draft vs. bottled, tasting beer, food and beer pairings, and suggestions for where to learn more about beer
Beer 101 - what's the difference between varieties?: 9 "types" of beer (all either lagers or ales) and some suggested brands for each (HuffPost article)
Notable Massachusetts breweries: a list of 12 breweries compiled by a staff member of the Boston Globe with some basic info about each and links to brewery websites
A neat, nerdy Periodic Table of Beer Styles: would this table be Maura-approved?
What is lambic?: a type of Belgian beer produced by spontaneous fermentation, different than lagers and ales
Note: Also much like Maura's apparent affinity for finer French wines, I somehow see Jane as the type to prefer local craft brews, not mass produced and distributed beers (ahem, such as Blue Moon), but perhaps that's not only wishful thinking, it's likely projected characterization on my part, which you can ignore if you prefer. ;-) FYI, Blue Moon is categorized as a witbier, a Belgian style ale. Here you can find some basic info about this type of beer and a ranking of different ones produced.

Because we all know that Jane and Maura aren't written to feel anything related to PTSD on the show, so here's a resource with basics about it in case you want to include it as an element in your story for Jane and/or Maura.
Hey, so I've been trying to write a Rizzles fic, but I find writing Jane's character really hard. I want the story to be told from her perspective as well as Maura's--do you have any tips on how to relate to Jane so I can write her better?
I’m going to give you a mix of advice and resources, external and from personal experience. Hopefully one of these will help you. :)Some links:Five Guidelines for Writing Character’s POV - essentially five questions (although asking in the context of this particular writer’s situation) that you want to ask yourself while trying to write from Jane’s POV.
Third Person POV - the advantages/disadvantages of writing limited vs. omniscient third person POV
Exercises to help you relate to Jane - write down Jane’s backstory and what we’ve learned about it on the show. Think about her personality/characteristics, about how she interacts with each individual character on the show. Consider the kinds of words and phrases (especially colloquialisms) she uses, particularly when interacting with different people. Thinking about all these aspects will help you get inside of her head.
~~~~Personally when I write from Jane’s point of view, I think about the things in the last link above. I think about what motivates Jane to act a certain way. I sometimes incorporate situations from my own life into my stories, which I feel often makes the events more real and easier to imagine or relate to, but when writing them, I develop them from Jane’s point of view. I think about how Jane reacts to different situations on the show and consider how she might respond to a new event that we’ve never seen before based on her canon reactions.
As I told another person last night, if I’m alone and there’s some dialogue I need to work out, I say the different lines quietly to myself. When doing so I can then easily spot what sounds off or out of character.
Rizzoli and Isles actor heights*, as requested.
*Please remember that Maura often wears shoes with several inch heels, and Jane usually wears boots that add I'd estimate at least two inches in height just by the looks of them, if not more.
**Note on Sasha's height - some sources say she is 5'7" (1.70m), some say 5'5" (1.65m), but I believe on Twitter Sasha has stated that she's 5'6"-ish (1.68m).
