This sounds so cool! I'm glad I stumbled across this from your main blog. :)
I’m glad you’re here too! :)
Weightless Warmth: When it comes to clothes, with true warmth often comes weight. Whether it’s a toasty wool cloak, a cozy blanket, or a comfortable coat, there’s usually at least a couple of pounds involved if you want to truly be warm.
That’s not helpful when it comes to things like flying (it’s cold up in the stratosphere), being invisible (unexpected weight and bulk both can ruin a perfectly good somebody-else’s-problem spell) or injury (sunburn and potionburn both do not react well to pressure). The bulk of fabric will also get in the way if you’re working with small or complex lab equipment.
This shawl was spun and woven by a clever spider-like creature native to this continent — we no longer know their name, they died out long ago and all records of them were lost to, well, colonialism — and is startling to touch and pick up. Though it somehow obeys the laws of gravity and hangs and settles like ordinary cloth, it feels weightless, not even a whisper of it registers on your skin — and once you’re wrapped in it, you immediately feel protected from the elements, cozy and warm and comfortable even on the coldest of days. It’s not just that which is under the blanket, either — wrapped around your neck and shoulders, somehow this shawl keeps your extremities comfortable as well, fingers and toes, ears and nose. A remarkable bit of work, don’t you think?
