(Huge ramble about Jane×Nicole)
Since some people are asking--the idea behind why I think Jane and Nicole fit as a ship is because they're both like prey animals that pretend to be badder than they are and try to seem like they're predators to not be hunted. Jane is obviously a rat but she pretends like she's some kind of demonic cat to make her presence stronger (heavily implied that she had to become that way because she kept getting hurt by being small)
Nicole is the leader of the Cunning Hares, she's a rabbit and leans into a meek bunny persona just to get an upper hand on her opponents and blindside them with dirty tricks. If you look closely at the elements of her design tho, she wears her belt like a cat tail and she's known for being a bit of a sneaky cat burglar in general.
So they're both prey animals that are trying not to be hunted and lean into being cat-like, playing dirty to get their way.
Another appealing aspect about the concept of the ship is that Nicole and Jane are both huge girlbosses but are also kinda girlfailures too. Nicole is the bigger girlfailure on average (I don't even have to explain her epic fumbles, she does it constantly) but Jane, while she's professionally a girlboss--when she's by herself it's known that she's a bit of a slob 💀 she won't clean her desk at work, apparently her house isn't that clean, either...it's a rat's nest. On top of that, she's not great at making real friends and letting them get close enough to know her well.
Nicole and her are huuuuge liars, can you imagine them dating each other lmao? Jane constantly pinning Nicole against the wall like "where you hoppin' off to, little bunny?" with a smirk and a wink, making Nicole's face as pink as her hair. Jane's always flustering her, getting the last word in and Nicole keeps trying to get back at her for it but fumbling every move. Constantly at war with wondering if they're mutually flirting or if this is just a game. Trying to make the other confess first, but neither one wants to show that level of vulnerability because what if they're wrong about the signals? Scary!!
Shenanigans wise, they play off of each other's chemistry like crazy. What could Nicole's poor ass do to spoil Jane back? Steal a diamond? But Nicole being the fumbler girlboss that she is means that she'd never be able to hide a secret from Jane. Jane would just follow her around and when Nicole inevitably flops her solo mission, Jane would princess carry her out of there and out-girlboss her in the process.
Not to mention, Jane is a cop. Which just makes it sooooo much funnier if she's dating little-miss-scandal over here. Imagine how many times Nicole would blow Jane's cover or how many times they'd run into each other doing work in general. If Nicole got caught by cops, she wouldn't ask Jane for help because she wouldn't want her to worry or make her think she's using her badge to get out of trouble. In the end Jane would be so mad and Nicole would pout and fake cry her way out of it and Jane would try to stay mad but she just caaaan't. Nicole is too cute.
Domestically--Nicole yelling at Jane to pick up her socks and throw away her 8 bags of trash. Jane always having too much money and Nicole never having any. But at the same time, Nicole has an insane amount of pride about it and won't just take advantage of her, either.
They're both insanely frugal while also liking luxury--so Jane would want to spoil Nicole rotten, getting lost in how expressive she is at everything she's ever given. She'd want to take her to fancy restaurants and see her in beautiful clothes she bought her...but at the same time, they both suit each other so well because they would really love to just sit on the couch in pyjamas and underwear eating microwave ramen bought with coupons while watching tv. Luxury is nice and all, but there's nothing like slobbing out with a girl who thinks you're so sexy anyway.
ZZZ has a big emphasis on found family and it's one of the big draws to the game in general for me, personally. Jane's storyline is really heartwrenching to me because of the big implication that Jane is a very lonely and vulnerable person, constantly feeling like she's not good enough and afraid of getting hurt. Putting her self-worth into her work and putting herself in danger just to get it done.
(I don't even fully believe Nicole's orphan backstory--I've personally always thought there was more to it) but it's clear that Nicole is money insecure, always trying her hardest and she gives to others (often orphans) even when she doesn't have anything for herself. The Cunning Hares are a group built of throwaways from other factions who all wanted something else in life, and they found a home and family with each other. They're not rich, but they're together in everything they do. Whether winning or failing, the love and dedication is there.
So I like the concept of Jane being drawn to her for that reason as well. They have so much in common and yet they're so different, but ultimately they want the same thing that they could very well find in each other.
