The study in the Fifth Avenue apartment of Angela Westwater, partner in Sperone Westwater Gallery, and her husband, David Meitus, owner of Stadium New York (purveyor of fine surfaces). Originally conceived by Meitus, who also uses the room as his dressing room, as an Italian Renaissance studiolo complete with leather walls, after assessing this plan as impractical he brought in artist Jane Kaplowitz, who created illusionistic perspective murals. In this view of the study we encounter a grand Italian palazzo as a backdrop to Meitus’s collection of Egyptian, Byzantine, Roman and Indian antiquities, with Art Deco furniture from Hugues Chevalier. A corner view of the study in Angela Westwater and David Meitus’s Jed Johnson-designed Fifth Avenue apartment several years ago features a mural by artist Jane Kaplowitz based on a sculpture by Antonia Canova. African headdresses and a Navajo mask on a Bugatti stand frame a leather Citizen chair from Hugues Chevalier. The photograph is by Rob Wynne, the oil on paper by Susan Rothenberg.
