ur reminder that Dawn was alone in the woods for a while without knowing anything and had to figure it out on her own before Janet came
Mr Martin is such a well written narcissist I'm in awe over the writers. Literally the initial portrayal of him being someone safe that everyone trusts, to someone super intimidating who seemed smarter than he actually was, to the desperate blubbering child of a man stamping his foot because he couldn't get his way any more. Janet being able to stand up to him was so cathartic for me. Oh how I loathe him, but he is such a well written antagonist.
Me going to bed knowing we'll be getting season 4:
SCHOOL SPIRITS FANDOM S3 IS IN PRODUCTION!!!!
likeee our fav ghosts and corporeal not-ghosts are finally coming home in 2026 aaa
school spirits chocolate headcanons <3
charley LOVES milk chocolate and won’t eat any other kind—even semi-sweet chocolate chips make him gag a little
yuri LOVES dark chocolate but will eat other types of chocolate. when charley nabs a variety pack of hershey’s kisses from the teacher’s lounge, yuri REFUSES to eat anything but the hugs so he doesn’t steal any of charley’s kisses, especially when charley offers.
rhonda secretly loves how sickly sweet her lollipops taste—so she’s a real sucker for chocolate too, but she doesn’t let herself indulge much. those ghirardelli squares with the raspberry filling are her FAVORITE though.
quinn hasn’t felt anything in the last twenty years, so a chocolate-induced sugar rush is heaven. when they find mr. figueroa’s secret chocolate stash, they stuff a bunch of chocolate bars up their jacket sleeves and make a break for the band room. rhonda almost cries when she watches the raspberry ghirardelli squares fall out of their sleeves.
wally loves milk chocolate, ESPECIALLY the mini m&m’s (which haven’t blessed school grounds since they stopped offering home ec). the guidance counselor keeps a bowl of regular m&m’s on her desk, but wally says it’s just not the same. maddie sneaks three bags of mini m&m’s into her locker on her first day back, and wally actually cries (he loves her so much he nearly feels the magnitude of living pain).
maddie used to love all kinds of chocolate candy—kit-kats, twix, reese’s, milky ways—but now they just remind her of trick-or-treating with her dad, so there’s always a bittersweet aftertaste. wally wins her over with the m&m’s, and she’ll never pass up a chocolate milkshake with simon.
simon is more of a dark chocolate guy, but he won’t refuse any chocolate if offered. chocolate milkshakes are his absolute favorite. they remind him of the day he was adopted, and maddie, of course (white-eyes aside, he’s surprised he could even forget the milkshake incident at her twelfth birthday party).
janet’s grandma used to bake the most delicious chocolate cake for her birthday. nothing ever tastes quite as perfect, but she won’t pass up a hershey’s chocolate bar (especially when she needs a mid-experiment dopamine spike).
dawn LOVES chocolate. all chocolate. any chocolate she finds. dawn, being dawn, knows all of the teacher’s hiding spots. chocolate bars start mysteriously appearing when the ghosts need a pick-me-up. janet gets into a little spat with mr. martin one evening and finds five chocolate bars on top of her notebook.
a lie mr. martin tells the kids: chocolate is too sweet for him. the truth: ralph loved chocolate, and so did alice, and so did his mother, whose smile he can’t recall. stomaching chocolate means stomaching the guilt of their memory, and mr. martin is incapable of doing either.
season one xavier only eats 100% cocoa dark chocolate because it’s extremely bitter and he likes making himself feel miserable (to atone for his sins). after he becomes friends with simon and nicole, xavier finally admits to himself that he’s a lot more than the rebel persona he projects. so, fuck it, fine—he LOVES white chocolate. when he gets home from the hospital, his dad buys him a cookies and cream hershey’s bar for the first time in a decade (and it tastes just as sweet as it had when he was a kid).
claire eats 100% cocoa dark chocolate because she actually prefers the bitter taste (also, she heard about the health benefits on tiktok, but she’s not admitting to that any time soon)
nicole loves all types of chocolate because “all chocolate deserves love and attention” <3 claire finds this incredibly endearing and half-considers buying out all the chocolate at seven-eleven before reeling herself in. she swears the fancy heart-shaped chocolate box she gets nicole is just a thank-you gift for letting her stay over (it’s not. they both know it’s not. they’re both too scared to admit it.)
some questions and curiosities im begging to be addressed in s4, cuz we def are getting it (ill cry if not):
- why was there so much significance put on simon being adopted and how his half sister reached out to him if it didn’t somehow connect to him being related to someone like the priest or van heidt? hopefully we get this mentioned again (also the fact that we didn’t even see him reunite with his parents despite them worrying all season is lowk criminal)
- how and when did van heidt possess dr hunter-price? was it at the house? the hospital? maybe at the school when she suddenly disappeared?
- also how did van heidt possess sandra? wasn’t she at the hospital? unless van heidt quickly just peaced out after being knocked out and slipped through to the hospital scar and targeted her on purpose
- why is it that simon specifically can connect to both the ghosts and the forgotten this way? the subtle answer seems be that, like the priest, his love and grief for maddie was so strong it not only allowed her to see him but allowed him to be pulled into the ghost world but it would be nice to know the exact reasoning for it
- will simon be able to see all ghosts now that he’s also been to the ghost world, even though he wasn’t ever quite dead or possessed? even though he could only see maddie was because of his connection to her, it would be sick if he could be like a whole medium now that the ghost kids can all roam wherever
- what will become of mr martin now that he’s chilling with his friend in the scar? and why is it that ralph can control the scar and knows when people are about to die?
- why is it that the ‘afterlife’ is a creepy ass forest consisting of doors and mirrors that suck you into your memories? is this an effect of van heidt using it as his own highway to hell (especially considering the forests and river are eerie familiar of split river)? will wally, janet and dawn ever be able to actually pass on or even return?
- was the reason hunter-price was so involved with the school in the first place? was it just because of money or maybe she really saw the school as a death trap cuz lowk it is. or was it something deeper like the car scene between her and her daughter suggests?
- how exactly do the objects work in the living world? we know they allow the ghosts to access their scars, so does that mean in turn they allow van heidt and maddie to also access the scars through their own ‘mind scar’ because of their connection with death? does this mean that simon will be able to do the same likely with his rosary beads?
- and the biggest question of the episode, how the actual fuck is the barrier now broken after the fire?? is the fact that the fire was both in the scars and in the living world somehow break it?? does that mean the ghost kids can truly go anywhere, and if so, can they be seen anyone or does it still have to be dead zones? where did charley, rhonda, quinn and yuri go after this? maddie’s house possibly??
I'm not certain, but I lowkey feel like Janet is going to come back. Like, we don't REALLY know what crossing over entails or what is on the other side, and her ending felt anticlimactic to me.
Plus, if anyone would figure out you can come and go between worlds when you want, it would be her.
