“You’re the exception here, not the rule,” he concluded. “Either you accept that or you’ll live in grief. Or worse,” he went on, a faint laugh escaping in a quiet breath through his nose, “you’ll find yourself running up to this rooftop at the end of every shift just to get your head straight.” Samira pressed her lips together, but the words slipped out on their own either way. “Is that what you do, Dr. Abbot?” Jack turned his eyes back to her, a flicker of unease settling in. He should have known. He should have known he wasn’t immune to that gaze either. It didn’t matter that he was older, or more experienced, or that he was her superior. Samira didn’t make distinctions between people, so it only made sense she hadn’t with him either. Jack held her gaze for what felt like an unmeasured stretch of time before finally giving in. “Yeah. It’s what I do.”
I wasn’t sure which direction I was going to take, but in light of the news of Supriya Ganesh’s departure from The Pitt (I’m still hoping it’s temporary or just random ragebait), this story begins between seasons one and two and will extend beyond the second with the same purpose as all my other stories: to be a post-canon fix-it :)
