Happy Birthday Ahmedabad BRTS!
Back in 2009, on the 14th of October, Shri Narendrabhai Modi, C.M. of Gujarat, inaugurated Janmarg, also known as Ahmedabad BRTS, connecting the city through its nooks and corners. It is operated by Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, a subsidiary of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and is designed by CEPT University. Prof.H.M Shivanand Swamy, an economist and urban planner by training and the Associate Director at CEPT University spearheaded the planning and implementation of BRTS in Ahmedabad by mapping various corridors and feeder networks. It has system designs quite similar to Curitiba's Rede Integrada de Transporte and Bogota's TransMilenio. This project, even led to the conception of several BRTS across the nation, like Chennai BRTS,Bangalore BRTS, Mumbai BRTS and Bhubaneswar BRTS.
Janmarg was an answer to many of our woes. Be it the students, having to travel in an overloaded auto rickshaw or employees running late for work due to traffic. This noble mode of transport in the city with a complete set of BRTS routes exclusive for these buses made it a noted and trustworthy means of public transport for one and all. The cheaper fares made sure that it benefitted every class of Amdavadi and thus grew our affection towards this choicest mode of transport in the city, which is safer as well as cheaper.
It’s been four years now since its inception and Janmarg is today, part of an everyday Amdavadi’s daily routine. Our team identified that this potential and efficient mode of transport could use an easy access mode through which regular travelers and even those, who are new to the city and who wish to use Janmarg to travel in the city can get easy information regarding, where the nearest Janmarg stop is and how much their travel would cost. Jetbro became the first enterprise in the city to launch BRTS Ahmedabad app to help Ahmedabad have a hassle-free BRTS ride.
The BRTS feature is yet again efficiently featured in our new app Ahmedabad Otlo, which is dedicated to the beautiful city and people of Ahmedabad. Hence on this day, while Janmarg grows four years older, we pray, that may the success of BRTS live and span throughout the city and may Ahmedabad pride on a new Metro line soon enough and bring across innovation into public transport.
