They met outside of work, striking up a conversation, it wasn’t until quite a while after, that they learned who the other worked for. (As a bonus it gave them the push to finally admit they liked each other after two months of weekly lunches).

Janine and Anthea were well acquainted before Janine ever met Sherlock; they had attended the same college and even gone on a few dates. After the "relationship" between Sherlock and Janine imploded, Anthea took the opportunity to renew her acquaintance and eventually left Mycroft's service to stay in Sussex Downs with Janine.
