Anpanman,the superhero made by anpan.Art by Takashi Yanase,the original creator of Anpanman series.

April 4th is the Anpan Day in Japan.Anpan was first made in 1875 by Yasubei Kimura,he sells this bread at his bakery "Kimuraya"(now Kimuraya Sohonten).At April 4th,1875,Yasubei prepared anpan to the Emperor and Empress while they were enjoying cherry blossom viewing.Thay acquired a fondness for anpan,and requested it from Kimuraya on a regular basis,that made it even more popular,so the Kimuraya Sohonten designated April 4th as the Anpan Day.

During the Second World War,Takashi Yanase faced starvation countless times,which made him dream about eating an anpan,and hoped there is a hero who could help poor and hungry people,so he was inspired to create Anpanman.That superhero is one of the most beloved characters among Japanese children,and Anpanman series is recognized by Guinness World Records as "the single animation with the most characters in the world."However,it is unfamiliar and less popular in Europe and the United States,possibly due to people's disgust at Anpanman tearing apart his head made of anpan(in order to provid part of it to hungry people),and also anpan aren't common in the West.
