Drum Tao - The Light (2023)
After all these years, I finally able to watch them in person! A truly lively and electrifying performance, I really love the dynamic of the musical instruments like different types of drums (handheld snare, Odaiko, Taiko), Japanese flutes (shakuchi, shinobue), shamisen, koto, harp and several others.
The choreography is amazing in a sense that they paint various stories for each songs, an example is showing an angelic lady in white dress descending down the steps illuminated by different lighting with every step as the music plays making you feel like you are watching a real life music video.
The performance is dynamic as each song and segment are presented differently so you do not know what to expect next. The audience was jovial, clapping along to the rhythm and cheering for impressive stunts done by the performers while playing their musical instruments.
It’s a performance that you have to see in person as the atmosphere is very different than watching on videos as you feel immersed in it from the beginning to the end. We were not allowed to record or take photos until the end to avoid blocking the audience with all the hands in the air with their phones.
The two hosts who are part of the performers speaks good English and were quite comedic and lighthearted. I remember them asking if we want more, and everyone was shouting “Yes.” and when they say this was their last performance in my country this year, everyone was like “aw....”. 😂
Everyone stand and clapped at the end for like five minutes, cheering as the performers waved at us until eventually the curtain comes down. For the the entire time since the curtain was lifted I felt like I was in a different world until the curtain came down I have that dread feeling of going back to reality.
One thing for sure, I would love to catch them again someday! 🥰
