Japan In A Month |6・11・16| Had a chill day today (even though I have a looooooot to do for my Rotary event tomorrow). Spent the morning in my own company- went to Nakano Broadway in hunt of a Kenshin figure, but I couldn't find him 😢 So I bought some manga instead- the latest 黒執事 and 高台家の人々. I then went to Shinjuku and spent lunchtime at a Starbucks, and began reading what I bought. Never used to drink Starbucks back in the US, and I don't think I will drink it when I go back- but for some reason I like going there here in Japan. Tried the new cheesecake frapp. The main event of the day was going with my friends to see 世界から猫が消えたなら, the new movie that my baby Sato Takeru Stars in😍 It was such a good movie- one of the most depressing movies I've seen though. It also made me think a lot about my exchange. The theme of the movie I guess was realizing what you have in your life, and how the existence of all these things reflects on everything around you and your experiences. If that object/person did not exist, then that experience is changed as well. Japan In A Month |6・10・16| Drew this for the calligraphy club today! My sensei asked me to draw it based off of one of the designs on the old 書道部 t-shirt, so after school in the library I worked on this. Japan In A Month |6・3・16| On Friday's I have self study time from 3rd period until 6th period. My amount of self study time throughout the week is a lot, and while some people might think that's boring I really love it. Maybe because I can have some time to myself, and cater to the introverted part of me, or maybe it's because I can dedicate that time to studying Japanese intensively without interruptions. At first I used to study in the library, but since people were always coming and going I never felt quite as ease there (ironic since libraries are usually the best places to study). Since the start of this year I've been studying in the penthouse, which is on the 6th floor of my school. All the walls are just giant window panels, allowing so much sunlight inside. It's such a beautiful lounge area as well, and the whole environment it relaxing. If I want to get some fresh air I can open the door and step out onto the roof area. If I get hungry or thirsty I can get something to eat/drink from the three vending machines that are there. I can sit at the tables near the wall and look out at the city. It's my own little space to be with my thoughts, and it's one of the things I will miss the most when I go back to my school in America. So I thought I would share this as my picture(s) of the day. Japan In A Month |6・2・16| Japanese 四字熟語: are like sayings made up of four Kanji. My friends @fluffy_collarbones and @dreambear0628 took time to explain some of them to me, and they really made sure I understood the meanings and the Kanji writings. This particular 四字熟語 stood out to me- I was told that it is one of the most well known ones, and that's it's really popular with girls- especially in girls-schools. 一期一会 is read as "ichi go ichi e". The literal translation I guess would be "one time, one meeting" or "one time encounter". I decided that this would be the picture for the second day of my mini-project. Today is the second of June, meaning that I have exactly one month left before I go back to America. 30 days left to spend time with the amazing people here in my life now. I've made posts on my blog before about how goodbye is a difficult word to say, because you never know if it will be the last time you see that person. I would like to think that I will meet up with the people I have come close to here, but then again who knows what will happen from the moment we all leave to go back to our home countries. Knowing this, I have done everything in my power to treasure the people I have been with throughout my exchange. Whether they were people that I became very close with, or if they were just on friendly terms with me; regardless of the person, I have been trying to cherish everyone in every encounter I've had so far. From my host families to classmates to teachers to Rotarians to the workers at stores that I go to often- all of these people play such a significant role in my exchange, and by having these relationships my year abroad has been enhanced a million percent. 最後の１ヶ月なので、一期一会のこと思い出して頑張っていきたいと思います！ #japaninamonth #personalproject #june #finalmonth #dailypic #一期一会 #6/2/16

Japan In A Month So it's finally June- the final full month of my exchange. I can't stop time from moving regardless of how much I want to, so in order to celebrate every day remaining in Japan I decided to create a new mini-project for myself. Everyday I'm going to take a picture and post it- it can be of anything, as long as it reminds me of my amazing adventure here. This project will last until the day I board the plane back to the US: July 2nd. So to start off my "Japan In A Month" project I present my picture for June 1st. I wrote these two pieces for my homeroom class: each class had a different theme, and calligraphy club made the signs. My teacher specifically requested that I write the pieces for 2年B組, so that even when I return to the US there will be something of mine remaining in the classroom. There will always be a piece of me at Fujimigaoka. I wrote two versions, one long horizontal one, and then one on a normal piece of paper that would be read vertically. 有言実行, read as "yuugenjikou", means something along the lines of "making good on one's promise". I thought it was fitting to start off my mini-project, because while I haven't been keeping up with my blog or my YouTube as much recently I want to keep my word that I will commemorate my last month of exchange. Every day will be celebrated with a picture, regardless of how mundane it might be- I want to share my final moments step by step.
