Made a time table for Third Year Jared today.
Hmmm, how about Etia for the meme? And Jared!
01. Name: Jared Aaron Upton02. Nickname(s): Raven Boy. His parents also called him Jerry as a child.03. Gender: Male04. Sexuality: Straight 05. Best Friend: Ragnarok, his oldest and largest raven. Also Ethan Morrison, who’s in the bed next to his in the dorm and who invites him to concerts over the summer.06. Relationship Status: Single but distressingly popular with the local ravens 07: Crush/Significant Other: self-prescribed to be the kind of guy with a crush that manifests somewhere between casual apathy and pig-tail pulling, but some people would argue that that’s how he is about a lot of people.08. Least Favourite Person: His Great-aunt Charlotte. She’s there every Easter when they go celebrate with his father’s family.09. Favourite Food: Quite fond of welsh cakes 10. Favourite Place: At school, it’s the outpost in the Astronomy Tower. At home, he’s got a favorite hiking route that will usually present a few surprises every time he goes on it. That’s the beauty of living in a national park.11. Valued Attributes: Bright eyes. Curious nature. Healthy appetite. Glossy feathers. Great perching posture. 12. Dreams: One day he’ll be able to get from Point A to Point B on a broom.13. Nightmares: Being devoured by sentient plants, in particular the Venomous Tentacula-Devil’s Snare hybrid that his mother keeps as a gate-guard (never mind that it’s actually a very mild-mannered plant under most circumstances).14. A Secret: Despite his father’s horror stories of calculus that kind of put him off of numbers, Jared put Arthimancy on his schedule and is actually enjoying how well it fits with Ancient Runes. The divining part he’s not so thrilled about though. Clicks his fabulous charmed Muggle pen when working through his number charts and annoys everyone in the common room. Also his dad wanted another kid named Benjamin so that his kids could be Ben and Jerry (unfortunately that never happened).15. Best Day: The first time Aunt Prissy let him help out in her owlery. 16. Worst Day: As a child, he helped his father care for some rescued yellowhammer chicks. Everything was going fine until the neighbor’s cat broke in and ate them.17. Favourite Outfit: Slightly baggy sweaters, usually in brighter shades and/or cheery patterns.18. Weapon of Choice: His wand. In the absence of that, probably his birds.19. Role in RPG: Wizard20. First Thought in the Morning: It’s too cold to get out of bed…
I'm bewitched, bothered, and bewildered.
Jared being grumpy, probably. Most likely when asked about how he feels about his flying abilities.
Jared things
Snippets for Jared in school and when he’s out in society.
Pretty sure Jared’s Boggart would be an enormous Venomous Tentacula and a Riddikulus turns into a venus fly trap with a tiny red felt Christmas hat that’s bitten down on a small cotton beard.
Sun and Sun reversed for anybody?
The Sun: When does your character sit back andenjoy themselves?
Jared likes taking his telescope and his winter cloak up to the Astronomy Tower, where he can do some casual stargazing but more importantly he can sit in a comfy cocoon and think. Few students go up to the Astronomy Tower outside of class to begin with, and the numbers are even fewer in the winter, so it’s perfect.
It doesn’t help his poor sleeping habits but what can you do? Oh well.
The Sun in Reverse: When does your character’sgoal seem just out of reach?
Getting Dong Gua to sit on still on the examination table with minimal fuss is always a near-impossible goal of Lester’s. The cat is amusing, yes, but he really, really needs to examine it and it really, really needs to stop attempting to dig a hole through his tiled floor to escape. Because the cat will be unsuccessful.
Oh look, now Dong Gua is trying to turn the trash bin into a tunnel to a vet-free land.
The plant was useful and non-sentient, thereby automatically making it a plant that Jared liked immensely.
Sometimes I remember Jared’s fear and hatred of magical killer plants and wonder how he makes it through Herbology.
Some Christmas gifts I imagine Jared got this year:
An exquisite winter cloak that’s lined with super-soft fluff and woven with insulation charms
A new lighter in the form of a tiny dragon. It puffs out flame when you stroke down its neck
A book on celestial charms for home improvement
The cloak he uses to break curfew by claiming he needs to do make-up Astronomy work. He’s had the pass since the beginning of the school year, but now the snow’s really coming down and sure the Astronomy Tower is warded so that snow and wind and rain doesn’t go in (to protect the fancy school telescope and all), but it’s still abysmally chilly up there. Now he can bask in the glory of the empty Astronomy Tower snug in the warm cocoon of his new cloak. Sometimes he lugs his telescope up with him. Mostly he goes up there to sit and think and engage in casual stargazing. Astrid wonders how he managed to get that pass from Professor Sinistra.
The lighter he took to Potions the first week classes resumed. It’s actually really tricky to get the strength of the flame correct. He ended up setting the Shrivelfig juice he was trying to simmer gently into a rapid boil (“too hot, hot damn,” he was heard muttering, followed shortly by: “make a dragon wanna retire even though it just started today.”). Astrid was not impressed, even though they ended up with a successful if not weaker-than-average Shrinking Solution.
Armed with his new book on home improvement, Jared turned the floor of his dorm room to reflect the “vastness of space upon which the grand ball of the planets plays out” (the book’s quote, not his). At first it just looked like the room got a new carpet modeled after a sad excuse for a ball pit. He will probably get it down correctly by the time February rolls over. The book is really interesting if he disregards its really cheesy lines.
