Jars.Drawings, 'Patched Hobbes: The Perpetual Pt. 2', 2019 Source I carry an abiding affection for Bill Watterson’s ‘Calvin & Hobbes’, one of the best Sunday comics ever made (right up there with Gary Larson’s ‘The Farside’) and then a friend sent me a link to this image. My initial reaction was “Blasphemy!” But, after that emotion dissipated, I thought to myself, this is what Hobbes might look like if Calvin devoured horror fiction like I did at an early age, particularly the cosmic horror of writers like H.P. Lovecraft. Hobbes as a shambling mass of flesh whose appearance as a beloved child’s toy is frayed, barely stitched together and unraveling, is just the kind of re-imagining I can dig. At least Calvin isn’t urinating.
