State of Mind Part 9: A Sacrifice

While Valdis walked around looking for a place to sleep Felix and Jay were silently going over their plan once more, “Okay you remember what needs to be done the moment Hyde takes Minty out of that cage right?” Felix asked. Jay felt knots twisting in his stomach, this PLAN that Felix had concocted it was insane! Terrifying! Scary to even think and speak about, Jay was feeling rather sick but stood his ground. “Yes...Hey Felix?” Jay replied. Felix sighed Jay was looking rather sad and not so good he could feel it. “Jay I know you're scared but I'm scared too so if anything don't worry I'm here for you and ready to die by your side...brother.” Felix answered. This made Jay smile a little, sure this plan might get them killed but...it was all for Minty’s sake. They weren't going to let Hyde win, he thought that Felix and Jay gave up but they hadn't just yet! They'd never back down now, once Valdis takes his steps into the room where Minty is being held prisoner they'd sure as hell be his last! As Valdis found an old couch to sleep on he lied down and rested leaving Hyde to be with Felix and Jay, “Hello boys, did you miss me?” Hyde asked sarcastically. “Hardly.” Felix scowled. Hyde examined Felix from afar taking notice of his inky clawed arms, they were razor sharp and more slim and bony at the fingertips, Felix’s canines had elongated a bit and become sharp enough to tear you limb from limb, his face and hair were slowly being coated in ink as did the rest of himself. Hyde smirked, “Well now I didn't know you were quite the monster yourself Felix.” he said. Felix gritted his teeth as if he were trying to hold his tongue but his anger was getting the best of him, “I'm not a monster. I'm NOTHING like YOU...Hyde.” He replied. Hyde began grinning even more as he began circling both Felix and Jay. Jay immediately pulled Felix close wanting to protect Felix and ensure that Hyde wouldn't try anything to make Felix waste his energy otherwise their plan would fail. “How are YOU dear Felix, different from...ME? We're both terrifying beings of ink and blood we both did something to achieve our dream-” “EXCEPT IT DIDN'T TAKE A SINGLE HUMAN SACRIFICE IN MY RITUAL TO CREATE LIVING BREATHING TOONS!” Felix immediately interrupted.

Hyde stared at Felix wide eyed with surprise as Felix realized what he had said caused Hyde to grin like a madman. “Well well well, isn't that something I...almost forgot after our last time we met.” Hyde finished. Felix began holding onto Jay tightly as he began to shake in fear of Hyde’s words, “L-Last time? What the hell are you talking about!?” Jay shouted. Hyde chuckled softly, “Oh Felix did you forget to tell Jay about that fateful day when you were brought into my studio? I thought you would have told him by now...oh well but what matters right now at the moment.” He began. Hyde took steps forward and closer to Felix however Jay was still in the way so Hyde used the power and energy he had to have the chains holding Jay to pull him away from Felix. “FELIX!” Jay shouted. Felix looked back to see Jay a foot away from him, “JAY!” He shouted back. Felix turned back to be face to with Hyde, he tried to back away but the chains held Felix in place tightly. Hyde laughed, “IS THAT I FINALLY HAVE YOU RIGHT WHERE I NEED YOU, FOREVER MY PRISONER.” Hyde Finished. He grabbed Felix’s face just to see the terror in his eyes it was such a great sight to see in Hyde’s opinion, Felix was at his mercy and so was Jay. He decided he'd keep Felix once he was done with Minty. “I THOUGHT YOU PLANNED ON BEING RID OF ME HYDE!” Felix shouted in fear. Hyde let go of Felix’s face and quickly grabbed for his neck, “PLANS CHANGE FELIX! I THINK I'LL KEEP YOU AROUND A WHOLE LOT LONGER THAN I NEEDED TO! ONCE MINTY IS GONE, YOU WILL SERVE YOUR PURPOSE AND I WILL KEEP YOU AND JAY WITH ME FOREVER STUCK AS ONE!” He replied. Felix was gasping and choking for air trying to loosen Hyde’s grip on him it was like a steel trap! Hyde’s grip tightened no sooner and Felix was running out of air and energy! Jay however broke out of his chains and wasted no time in saving his brother as he punched Hyde square in the face! “LEAVE US ALONE ASSHOLE!” Jay shouted. Felix immediately took in gulps of air as Jay helped him up, “Thanks Jay.” Felix said with a smile. Jay nodded in reply and held Felix close, “So what if your free and out now!? I still have control here!” Hyde shouted. He stormed off in anger away from Jay and Felix since it was basically one against two. “So how much longer will it take you think?” Jay asked. Felix rubbed his neck with his hand, Hyde almost killed him and they could have lost their chance when the moment came to take control. “Once Hyde decides to wake up and open Minty’s cage is when we put the plan into action and trust me it won't take long with the way Hyde is.” Felix replied. Jay was taken back and began thinking about what Hyde said about Felix meeting him for the first time. “Felix what did he mean when he said the first time you and him met?” Jay asked. Felix began thinking back on that day even though he didn't want to remember it, he shook his head dismissing the memory. “I...I don't want to talk about that Jay, right now we have to save Minty okay?” Felix replied. Jay nodded in response, whatever Felix seemed to be thinking about or rather remembering Jay knew he shouldn't ask him about it.

Later Valdis woke from his moment of rest, “Damn Felix and Jay they just LOVE getting in the way.” he said angrily. Valdis got up and began making his way to were Minty was being held his prisoner. “Ready Jay?” Felix asked. Jay hugged Felix tightly he didn't like this one bit but...what choice did they have if they wanted to save Minty from being killed? Jay sighed, “I'm ready.” he replied. As Valdis opened the door he grinned when he opened the door and saw Minty tired, worn-out, blood staining his clothes, cuts dried, hair matted, His eyes dulled and tired. This made Valdis’s smile grow, he approached Minty’s cage, unlocked it, pulled Minty out and threw him across the room and walked up to the tired man with a knife in hand ready to kill him. Minty waited for the knife to be plunged into him but strangely enough...it never came instead, “Minty…” Valdis said. His voice sounded sad, this confused Minty he looked up to see Valdis with the knife plunged into his stomach, blood trailing down and staining his clothes and his eyes full of tears. “I...We're sorry, we couldn't think of another way.” he said. Minty noticed the color of Valdis’s gem...it was the color of a peridot...light green. “Felix..no no no no no no!” he cried. Minty didn't want to believe it but it was true Felix had taken control just to speak to Minty for a short moment, Valdis fell to his knees as he used his arms to hold himself up knowing he would pass out soon. “Minty...I'm so sorry, this is all my fault if..if I hadn't been so stupid and listened to Hyde...trusted him, believed what he said then we wouldn't be in this mess and...Felix and I wouldn't have to hurt ourselves just to save you and to stop Hyde from killing you..I'M SORRY!” Valdis cried out. Minty held him close in a hug not wanting to let go, he knew Jay was talking this time he wanted to apologize to him for being so foolish for trusting Hyde. “Valdis...please, please don't leave me.” Minty replied.

Meanwhile Felix and Jay were stuck with Hyde all three of them were weak and in pain...but Jay realized he wasn't hurt. “F-Felix!? I THOUGHT YOU SAID WE WERE GOING TO DO THIS TOGETHER! I THOUGHT...You...You wanted to protect me...didn't you?” Jay said. He realized what Felix had done, he'd taken the hit for him while he and Hyde suffered losing blood. “yeah...I..I cared about you and I couldn't risk letting you die because you're my family and even though I know I have so much to live for! I just didn't want you to die you protected and cared about me so I wanted to return the favor...sadly it costed my life...heh, when we unfuse...tell Minty I'm sorry. Please.” Felix replied. Jay held onto Felix ever so tightly not wanting to lose his family. “We're staying together, you and me Felix Hyde is the only one leaving the fusion! I'm saving you I won't let you die like this! You can't die yet!” Jay shouted. Hyde laid there struggling to get to his feet trying to push himself off the ground. “YOU TWO, YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!” Hyde shouted at the two. Jay used his energy and strength to unfuse from Hyde but stay with Felix as a bright light consumed the darkness of their fused minds.

“Minty I'm gonna need you to back away from me for a moment I...I'm unfusing.” Valdis explained to Minty. “...O-Okay.” Minty replied. Minty laid Valdis down as he began unfusing, as he unfused the only one who truly was no longer a fusion was Hyde. Jay and Felix were still holding together with Felix holding onto life by a thread. Minty rushed to Jason's side and picked him up tears swelling in his eyes, “Jason? Jason please...please don't die.” he wept. Jason groaned, “I'm not dead yet old man, but uh...heh I'm kinda in a lot of pain...mind pulling out the knife?” Minty looked down at the knife afraid to hurt his own son this was scary. “Okay but it might hurt a lot understand?” he replied. Jason chuckled weakly, “C’mon old man, Felix is still hanging in and Jay isn't even badly scratched. I can handle a little knife being pulled out of my gut.” This made Minty feel worried but what choice did he have if Jason was right about Felix still holding onto life...he had to do this if he wanted Felix to be okay! “Alright if you say so Jason...here goes.” Minty replied. Minty pulled out the knife as quickly as possible hoping the pain wouldn't be so bad, “Augh! Sh-shit! Jesus Christ, mmmmm..ah, don't worry I'm okay it just stung like a bitch is all.” Jason hissed. Minty removed Jason's jacket, sweater vest and shirt, the wound was pretty bad but not too deep he hoped. He quickly tore the sweater vest in half and wrapped it around the wound tightly to ensure that the blood would stop, he immediately put Jason's shirt back on him and wrapped him in his jacket and carried Jason in his arms as he ran out of the room and summoned a portal to Felix’s studio in hopes that both Felix and Snowy were going to be okay.

In general, Jay is very nice and kind, but some events make him feel bad. Jay is also very fond of animals. All, except those who look like wolves and dogs. Even 16 years after the incident can not erase the fear. @smoresthehalloweenqueen
