Listenlisten my guy my friend my pal… I think one of the most relevant things aboutBucky and Jason is that both of them went through a ton fuck of trauma thatshaped them to be the people they’re now, right? They’re not the same after thethings that happened to them, there’s a before and an after, etc.
So! What I like about this pairing, is that I feel like they would understandeach other. Sure, they have different approaches to their trauma, but theywould understand why they decide toact the way they do, and not judge.
After said trauma neither of them is the same, and i feel like they couldconnect through that too. They didn’t know each other before, so they don’thave expectations from each other based on who they used to be, like otherpeople might have. Hell, they probably didn’t even hear about each otherbefore. Jason doesn’t look at Bucky and sees a war hero, doesn’t expect him torecall old memories, to be just like the good ol’ James. Bucky doesn’t see afailure, doesn’t see a good boy gone bad, doesn’t see batman’s sidekick. Theyrejust Jason and Bucky, just the winter soldier and red hood.
Also!! They’re definitely not scared of each other! And would call each otheron the unhealthy things they do. Bucky would be scared of hurting Jason, ofcourse, but he knows that if anything happened, Jason would most definitely beable to hold his ground, so he’s not high-key scared of his programming kickingin and killing his bf by accident. Something similar happens with Jason and thelazarus madness, and !! How he closes off the moment he’s in too deep. Buckywon’t even let him do that shit, that’s for sure. When Jason tries to distancehimself because he feels like he’s not good enough, Bucky would remind him thatneither of them are saints

They understand when the other is having a Bad Day™ and even if they don’tget their methods when dealing w it (Bucky goes back to his memories, he readsabout captain America and James Barnes, retrieves notes made by Steve andNatasha and Sam and even himself,repeats to himself “I was a victim. I was a victim. It wasn’t my fault. Itwasn’t me. It wasn’t me. It wasn’t me,”) (Jason either disconnectshimself from the world or goes on a violence rampage, punches and kicks andbleeds, “I wasn’t used my Talia, i wasn’t used by Bruce. I’m not a victim,I’m not a victim, i wanted that. I wanted to be robin no matter what, i wantedrevenge. I did. I did. I did. I’m sane. I’m sane.”), they give each otherspace or are there helping (Jason sits by Bucky, holds his hands, recites theinformation he found on Wikipedia about James Barnes, then goes over their ownmemories while tracing his fingertips on the metal arm. “You were the onlyone able to hold our neighbor’s cat without getting too hurt, remember? Nobodywanted to get scratched but that wasn’t an obstacle to the arm, yeah? And thattime you stopped the car that was going to run over little Ruth from the fifth floor?Her mother baked us cookies for two months, Bucky. You’re such a good person, you’re so beautifuland sweet and so cheesy Jesus Christ, just yesterday you were teaching me thatold as balls dance moves, you nerd”)
(Bucky holds Jason against him, let’s him scream and bang his fists against hischest, grip his metal hand as hard as he needs, “you’re safe, you’re safe,you’re safe” he repeats over and over again, trades his fingers throughjasons hair and breathes slowly to regulate Jasons own breathing “he’sgone, he’s gone, i won’t let him hurt you anymore”; he patches Jason upwhen he comes back covered in blood from a patrol, looking far far away, stayswith him afterwards until he comes back, and then holds him when he sobs, whenhe shakes, reassures him he’s alive, he’s breathing, that he’s not goinganywhere for a long time, that he deserved that second chance….)
and okaymaybe what got me into this pairing was a fic that had Bucky go all wintersoldier on the joker’s ass….. but after civil war I’m just…. Bucky issoft… he doesn’t do that anymore
however! He would definitely tear apart the joker or anyone who touched Jason.
not even that far tbh! If the joker was running free around Gotham you can betyour ass the winter soldier won’t even hesitate to hunt him down if that meant that Jason wouldn’t be having more nightmares than theusual and just generally having a bad time
anyway,, they would be such a powercouple. Jason is the one who fightseveryone and goes right on their faces and Bucky is always hiding somewherehigh ready to put some bullets on whoever tries to come for Jason. The hood and the ghost…. and tbh they’re not only good stopping the bad guys, but they’re also known for going around jason’s gotham side looking after the less fortunate
AAllso imagine.. the Batfam Antics™… Jason being an asshole and bringing Bucky for dinner at the mansion bc Alfred kept insisting… Tim being a fucking nerd and trying to find ways to ask Bucky about his arm without looking creepy… Bruce having an aneurism bc he just knows the fucking winter soldier could kill everyone on the room on two seconds flat… Bucky having a glare down with Damian who just keeps moving the salt away from him…. Jason smirking like the fucking asshole he is everytime Dick tries to diffuse the tension…….. Cass being the only decent one, complimenting Bucky’s hair because she really likes the bun…..
(The Avengers Antics™ tho… Steve being both happy for Bucky bc he has someone to rely on but at the same time…. whos this guy and why does he keep calling me Captain Assmerica…. Natasha knowing every single detail about Jason’s life and appearing out of nowhere to threaten him…. Sam inviting him over for bond nights and taking Jason under his wing…)
I should read comics w Bucky though bc i feel like his comic self would be better for this idek
