Kids vs. Aliens is the kind of movie you want playing during a Halloween sleepover: loud, bloody, and packed with VHS-era chaos.
It’s messy, the plot is not the tightest, after making the stakes seem quite high, the aliens are trivial to kill (if anyone tries), and one has scissor hands with zero explanation. But it’s also fun, energetic, and anchored by (mostly) great performance from its young cast. They do falter in some more emotional scenes but overall more than hold their own.
Its unlikely anyone will reach into the criterion closet and pull out this movie, its not a masterpiece. But it doesn’t want to be, its was a really fun time. Full 3/5 review (with trailer + analysis) in the source.
