WIP Snip from my unnamed dark fantasy
Jasper didn't say anything, but Echo could sense her unspoken words.
"Don't leave," he said. "We need you."
I need you.
Jasper didn't have any time to reply, because the Tahoe swerved suddenly as Mitch yelled out a curse.
He narrowly missed diving into the ditch, but the overcorrection in addition to the curve of the road sent them straight into the other one, and they started tipping–but a force from the side knocked them back into the road, and they spun and skidded until they finally came to a stop–upright.
"Everyone okay?" asked Mitch as he was fumbling to unbuckle.
A chorus of vague groans resounded.
Jasper blinked, disoriented, but her senses returned to her, mostly in the form of pain. She realized she had thwacked her head into the window and blacked out, and experienced the rest of the accident through the others.
She touched the side of her head, and it throbbed as she made contact with broken skin and warm liquid. She brought her hand in front of her face.
Her fingers were covered in blood, and the smell of copper stung her nostrils.

Hi!! @ink-fireplace-coffee here!! I have a question for/about Jasper and Jerecho! How did they meet?? Did they get along instantly or, because of their different personalities it took a while to connect? do they have fun stories about their friendship?

No worries! More than one question worked out because I just answered the first two in a different ask 🤣 great minds think alike.
Honestly Jasper and Jerecho are inseparable after they get past the clashing. Here are some misc things/memories
They start keeping journals and passing it between them with writings and drawings they collaborate on together. They stopped around 12, but Jasper still has the stack of them all.
Jasper loves reading back on them and Jerecho has turned some of their ideas into books he wants to write
They totally make forts all the time
Then Jasper gets a loft bed at 11 and then they have a permanent fort that they call “The Cave”
Jasper actually teaches Jerecho how to swim which embarrasses the heck out of him at the time
They swim all summer, and play games like whirlpool and Marco Polo and a mix of the two that they invented
They go on walks down their road. Two older boys make fun of how Jasper looks so Jerecho physically fights them one day. He gets grounded for that but the boys don’t bother them anymore
This isn’t the only time he fights an older dude to defend Jasper lol
They have outdoor movie nights with his parents and they eat way too much junk and pull all-nighters
They spend holidays like Christmas together because Jasper doesn’t really have family outside of Amber. Jasper usually gets him good gifts and he usually makes her something he thinks is lame but she always loves it. She still has his gifts on display
The Maxwell’s will also take Jasper (and Amber) on vacation with them so they have camped together a few times, stayed in a haunted hotel, boated on lakes and oceans, etc
Jasper always gets sunburnt or injured and Jerecho makes fun of her but also takes care of her in his Jerecho way
“Hey, put on your aloe, stupid.”
“Remember what happened last time you didn’t reapply sunscreen?”
“Let me see your hand. Okay, it’s fine, the cut isn’t that deep, don’t be overdramatic. I can wrap it up so you don’t have to look at it”
They play Pokémon DP together on their DS’s, and Guitar Hero on Jerecho’s Wii. Also Mario Kart on the 64
they also play with nerf guns
Once they hit 12/13, they of course enter their edgy teenager phase and start listening to way more hard rock and other music together. All Time Low is their fave
Jerecho gets his nickname “Echo” because it’s edgy and cool and they’re 12. Jasper still calls him that and she’s the only one allowed
The first time Echo hugs Jasper (he’s touch averse until like 14), it’s because Jasper passes the big reading state test at the end of their 8th grade year when she was certain she’d fail
Jasper felt arms bear hug her from behind. “I knew you could do it,” a familiar voice said.
Her stomach dropped as she realized that it was Echo that had hugged her, but when she finally had the thought to hug back, he was gone.
They go to an All Time Low concert. It’s their first one and they get terrible seats but they have a good time singing all the songs and being dorks
Joseph is their ride and he hates every second of the music but is glad his kids are having fun lol
They went to a Breaking Benjamin/Disturbed concert when they’re a little older with some other friends (Brass and Mitch) and tried to mosh. It was fun until Jasper got knocked down and practically trampled. Echo saved her lol (Brass almost fell on her)

Idk what book this will be but here’s one of the recent scenes we’ve written from the Broken Resonance series
[Jasper] grabbed fistfuls of his hoodie. “Just come home,” she cried into his chest. “I know you can do this without me but I can’t do it without you.”
“I can’t do this without you, Jasp. I wanted to but I can’t.” He buried her face in her hair. “I’m here, okay? I’m not going anywhere.”
“Promise?” Her voice was small and request childish, maybe even naive.
Jerecho froze and Jasper felt why. The unwanted son left alone by his parents was suddenly Jasper, and Jerecho was walking away with sweet lies like saccharine to ease his conscience.
Jerecho ran away, just like them.
“I promise,” he said through a breaking voice.
