Self Write|| How To Dance
“Do you even know how to dance Jasper? Isn’t this a bit above someone of your, capacity?”
 The slender off colored Pearl spoke, almost looking down her nose at Jasper who stood slightly between Pearl and Garnet as they attempted to explain the reasoning behind the dances in fusion. Jasper stood with her arms crossed as she seemed to have been getting the remarks from both Garnet and Pearl. She knew they were teasing her to some degree. Being such a finely tuned soldier left no room for elegant art form such as the ones the Crystal Gems seemed to be so fond of. Yet what neither of them knew was how far out of her way Pink Diamond had gone to make sure that her Jasper was entirely perfect. In a matter-of-fact tone Jasper retorted almost abruptly after they had questioned her capability, “Dancing is a lot like fighting..” she seemed to almost quote the phrase as she seemed to be transported back into her memories by the very words she seemed to mouth…
 “Jasper, you need to loosen your shoulders, and stop anticipating my movement to overpower it. Just lead me.”  The soft tone of Pink Diamond’s voice echoed in her chambers as some soft music drawled in the background. Jasper stood taller than usual, a look upon her face that had long sense been replaced with a scowl of distrust and loneliness. Years ago Jasper was a young Gem, learning and open to experiences despite her rigid nature as a warrior. She nervously inhaled and nodded to her Diamond, taking her words as orders and adjusting almost instantly to her wishes. The Diamond twirled about the brute gracefully as Jasper stood still and stiff in her appearance. It made Pink Diamond laugh, which caused Jasper to often close herself off to the moment. “I am not laughing at you Jasper, it’s just interesting how you can fight and move so naturally around your enemies, and my threats. Yet you can’t even take this moment to be present with your Diamond and move naturally with her? Why is that Jasper?”
 The Quartz warrior gave the question some thought. She stopped attempting to lead the dance and stared at her Diamond, “Does dancing with me not please you, I am trying. I just don’t feel anything behind this... It’s just close movement. In a battle, there is the risk, the chance that the person you are up against may end your life, or cut you down in the process of trying to harm those you care about. No one is going to be hurt by this. There is no risk here to be taken.” Jasper’s words were so honest that Pink’s expression looked pained as she stepped back, “You don’t see the risk in this? Being this close to someone you care about? You don't feel the pain of wanting by just being intimate and close to someone during a dance? You need the chance for harm? Alright then, My Jasper... be ready.” Pink spoke openly and turned her back to Jasper as she stepped a few feet away before turning back to face her soldier. The look in her eyes went from soft, to hurt almost as if Jasper’s naïve take on dancing really did cause Pink to feel some sort of pain. “If you do not commit, and connect with each of my movements. I could be injured, and you will be punished. Do I make myself clear, Jasper?” The way Diamond spoke caused Jasper to suddenly take the lesson more seriously.
  Unsure of what was to come the brute stood there and only nodded as if ready for anything yet unprepared at the same time. Without warning Pink started to dance, spinning and leaping across the chambers with power and energy that Jasper wasn’t ready for. She pulled herself into tight twirls before she pushed from the ground and soared elegantly through the air in a triple turn towards Jasper. With her eyes wide the Quartz warrior reached out as she tried to just catch Pink safely. Yet as Jasper caught her the Diamond twisted in her hold, forcing Jasper to come up underneath her and support her weight as Pink posed in the air elegantly with Jasper’s support. The look in her eyes was a look of longing as she gazed down at her soldier, somewhat proud but not done yet with her test. The look behind Pink’s eyes was that of complete faith and trust in Jasper, who looked scared and focused to not drop her Diamond. In a quick snap like motion, Pink pressed off from Jasper’s hold and elevated herself even higher. She without warning dropped, unsuspectingly she slid down the length of Jasper’s arm until she almost hit the floor. Jasper used that warrior reflex of hers to force Pink Diamond back up into her arms bringing their faces dangerously close. It was then that Jasper felt the risk, despite Jasper being the one in control of the dance, Pink’s gaze had control over Jasper’s whole being. That was the risk, the feeling of battle Jasper hadn’t connected to the art of Dancing.
  A fire seemed to ignite behind her amber hues, and the smile that formed to Pink’s lips showed that her perfect Quartz had gotten the point Pink was trying to make. Pink Diamond pulled herself free from Jasper’s strong grasp. The solider snapped out of her sudden realization and stood taller, bowing to the Diamond in respect of the moment. Pink simply ran her hand through Jasper’s mane lovingly, “ It is okay to be dangerous and elegant, Jasper. Dancing is like a war of the heart and body between two souls. To know there is always this physical limiter between you and the one you love…it’s almost cruel in a sense. To become one through motion, but not fully being able to be one. It seems almost unnatural, like it goes against that pull you get when you’re close in a dance. Like it draws the light from you towards your partner.” Pink’s eyes seemed to light up almost just as Jasper’s would when her passion or fury was sparked…
 “Jasper!?” Pearl’s voice broke the brute from her flashback as she glanced up to the two, the look in her eyes was cool and confident as she responded, “You’d be surprised what I am capable of..”
