Many know the Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson Sr., as an American civil rights activist, minister, and politician. The founder of the organizations that merged to form the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. The Reverend has played a poignant role in virtually every movement for equality in the USA, and sometimes abroad. He was awarded the the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the nation's highest civilian honor, in 2000, by then President Bill Clinton.
But, did you know, back in the 1980’s, Revered Jesse Jackson ran for President of the United States of America... twice? In 1984 and 1988, Jackson became the second Black person to run a national campaign for President (Shirley Chisholm was the first), and the first Black man to do so.
