Salman Khan does his best to save choreographer Jay Borade but finally bids a teary adieu. One night in December 1988, a young Salman Khan was driving to his Bandra residence from Worli when he saw a man on the road, bleeding profusely, with an overturned scooter lying nearby. The actor rushed him to Bandra's Bhabha Hospital where the gnash on his head was stitched up. The man was Jay Borade. Neither knew it but the duo was to meet the next day for the rehearsals of Maine Pyaar Kiya, Sooraj Barjatya's directorial debut with Salman in the lead. The songs were choreographed by Jay who went on to work with Salman in Baaghi, Sanam Bewafa, Hum Aapke Hain Koun! (for which he won a National Award) and Hum Saath Saath Hain. "The night my father died, November 3, Salman met me on the steps of Mount Mary Church. Together we went to the hospital where they had met years ago," recalls Jay's choreographer son Vicky. Jay was diagnosed with urinal bladder cancer in January and was admitted to a hospital in Borivli. In July, his health deteriorated. "I was all alone and so I called Salman," says Vicky. Salman immediately put his personal doctor on the case and Jay was shifted to Bombay Hospital where he underwent a surgery. Salman took care of the expenses. The operation was successful and Jay was discharged. But on Diwali there was a complication and he couldn't eat anything. " I rushed him to a hospital in Bandra where he passesd away," recalls Vicky. In 2007, his brother Girish, Sooraj Barjatya's assistant director, had suffered a fatal heart-attack. A few months later, his mother died, leaving Vicky to look after his ailing father, who despite his frail health, continued to take up work. Jay'a last film was Kahin Hain Mera Pyaar (2013). After his father's death Vicky sent Salman a message. He delayed his Goa trip and immediately dashed down. "He drove with me in the ambulance, tear-eyed because his Masterji was no more," recalls Vicky.

Bhupendra Sayan, general secretary of Indian Film Dance Directors Association (IFDDA) said, “He was the first choreographer to get a National Award and is famous for his work with Salman and Rajshri productions. Yesterday, in the evening we came to know about his death and it was a shock because he was discharged after the treatment and was recovering well.”
Salman ensured that his personal doctor took care of Jay’s medical requirements. Bhupendra said, “Salman was paying for his treatment and after he was discharged there were some other complications. It was very kind of Salman to do what he did. We also helped Jay for his treatment.”
When the actor learnt about the demise of Jay he left everything and rushed back to Mumbai. “I was not aware of this but Jay’s son Vickey told me that Salman was in the hospital last night. In the journey from the hospital to morgue, Salman was sitting in the ambulance with Vickey and he was there till late night,” Bhupendra added.
According to Jay’s colleagues, he was a jovial person who made people laugh.
