Under normal circumstances, if Jamie was in the book shop then he’d be wearing a t-shirt at the very least. But with the heating being all over the place, he had gone for the vest top, knowing it would be cooler if little else. He’d only received a few disapproving looks about the tattoos and he could live with that. Hearing someone come in, he turned. It was close to closing and he was hoping they’d be quick. “Sorry, air con is down, someone’s fixing it tomorrow but it’s a little warm today”. @jayclcrk​

Normally if Caleb changed, he did so quickly enough that he was only shirtless for a few seconds. The only reason he didn’t this time was because of hot it was. It was almost unbearable. With Jay and the kids out, he hadn’t bothered to put another one. Just carefully avoiding the mirrors. He could handle heat normally, he didn’t know what it was this time. Lack of sleep maybe. 

He had only meant to lie down for a few moments. Rest a bit before the others came home. What he hadn’t meant to do was drift off to sleep, but with the lack of sleep he got from nightmares, it had just been too easy.

He had only heard in part what had happened to the other man, but he still felt for him. Losing someone you loved... there was nothing worse than that really. Looks wise, he seemed to be doing ok, but he wondered if that was the truth. “Here. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you look like you’re about to fall asleep on the table” he said, giving the man a coffee. “On the house, call it a good dead for the day”. @jayclcrk

Flashback

Of all the things he wanted to deal with today, Jackson was not on it. He had spent the last few years pushing everything down, almost as if he hoped that if he ignored it for long enough then he could somehow end up finding some girl who’d marry him and have a family. He knew it was ridiculous, that things didn’t work like that, but he didn’t know what else to do and denial ran deep. Least right now. Still, in his head he’d had it all under control, and then Eli just had to make friends with Jay. There was something about that man that just got under his skin, and he hated it. He didn’t know how to cope. So when the knock on the door came, he hadn’t known what to do, “Eli’s not here if you’re looking for him. Not sure why’d you come here, we don’t live together or anything like that”  @jayclcrk​

His original plan had been to wait until the new year. The way he saw it, if he did that, then at least it wouldn’t be ruining Christmas for anyone. He wanted to go sooner, the memories of his husband, of his family had kept him alive, and he had just wanted to run to them almost as soon as he got back to Edens. It was fear. His life had been put on hold, but that didn’t mean anyone elses had. Five years was a long time, there was every chance he had moved on and was happy with someone else. How could he now show up and risk that? But at the same time... their kids. 

It had taken every bit of courage to walk up to the house. One they had chosen together a lifetime ago. Everything had been planned here... and he didn’t even know if he still lived here. He wanted to run, come back another time and somehow cope with this another day. But enough people knew he was alive, and he didn’t want this getting back to Jay any other way. He took a breath, before knocking on the door. This was far more terrifying than anything else he had lived through. @jayclcrk

Jacob sighed, looking over the paperwork for what must have been the hundredth time, and still not seeing what the link was. Sighing he put them down, rubbing his temples as he tried to figure it out. “None of this makes sense, we have the prime suspect for the robbery, but his alibi his air tight. No one else had any interest in that damn box, so how the fuck does this make sense” he muttered, staring back at the papers, something had to make sense with this, he just didn’t know what. @jayclcrk​
