It had been years since he’d set foot in this house, over two decades. He didn’t really remember much of it, nothing looked particularly familiar. But then again, a lot can change in that amount of time. 

As he walked around, it was clear that his mother wasn’t there and she wasn’t going to show up any time soon. It had been a long shot, he knew that. He hadn’t really expected to find anything here but it was just to give him a little peace of mind. 

He hadn’t been there long, maybe ten minutes, when he heard movement. Jason pulled out his gun, but as he listened, the movement didn’t sound like a walker, it was the sound of someone living. Slowly and cautiously, he made his way to the source of the sound, staying hidden behind the wall as he called out. “Who’s there?”
