"We had many human and pet deaths in a very short period of time, but my Godmother's unexpected death was the most devastating. Vicki was a second Mom to me. The sadness, uncertainty, and fear made for years of focusing on memorial art. More than just the subject matter though, so much death made me realise that drawing may be the only vital part of my life that I could have forever if I always respected it and gave drawing the time that it needed. That period of time influenced my aesthetic of how beauty and decay are intricately linked. It's grown less obvious at first glance, but is almost always present in my work.
