Stampede
My heart pounded in my chest making me feel as if I had a stampede running through me. At any moment great black stallions would be released from my body and I would be left torn open and vulnerable. Her hand rested in the empty spot between us as she turned towards me. I awkwardly reached across my chest and held onto my left elbow. A feeble attempt to shield her from the chaos that was inside of me. I took a deep breath. “Are you alright?” she questioned. Her big brown eyes bore into me. I began to tremble. “Yeah.” I smiled and quickly looked down “Are you? Do you- uh- want another drink or anything?” Why was I so nervous? I began to stand up but froze as the warmth of her hand on my thigh held me in place. I could almost hear the bones in my chest straining to keep the rush contained. Her hand seemed as if it was burning straight through the denim of my favorite jeans. It burned straight through my skin and into my bones. The fire traveled up into my chest igniting the beasts that were thundering through me. I tried not to look at her as I sat back down. I feared she would see the flames dancing in my eyes and know. She laughed. “Don‘t run from me.” she said “I’m not running from you I just wanted to make sure you were comfortable.” I turned towards her now to try and make her believe that I wasn’t going anywhere. She removed her hand from my thigh and I began to feel the warmth begin to recede from my body until she placed it in my hair and began to play with the strands that hung near my face. She left traces of fire on my cheeks that gave me away immediately. “You’re blushing.” “Uh, I-uh…” she cupped my chin and ran her thumb over my lips. I looked into her eyes and was surprised at what I saw. Flames. The same flames that I knew she saw in my mine. I leaned closer towards her. Thundering hooves resonated in my ears as the stampede tore through my body. It didn’t get very far though. Her body crushed into me and I could feel it crashing through her. With trembling hands I pulled her closer to me. The pounding in my chest growing so fast that I began to feel as if my whole body were vibrating.
