Ralph was transfixed on Jerry’s hands as they moved. He blinked in surprise at the response, finding it quite fascinating. Such languages weren’t programmed within him, for he had just been a mere gardener before deviating. “Your favorite? Jerry likes sign language more than English?” His head tipped out of curiosity.
“Has Jerry talked to a lot of people who use it?” Perplexed, his eyebrows furrowed. “Ralph has never heard of talking with your hands. How does it work?” This was much too interesting for him to let it go.

Jerrys didn’t cry, he knew this, but there he was. Silently sniffling in tears as he looked and tried to listen to the woman’s words.
DO NOT CRY. DISABLE SADNESS. STOP.

That was all he errors he could see in his oculars. Plastered all over his field of vision. He pulled his beanie down more to cover his face as he curled up with his knees to his chest.
She should’ve known better than to think words would help. Lola reaches over to lay a comforting hand on his shoulder, starts running her hands in circles to try and soothe him. Memories of what her mother and father did when she was a weeping child float to the surface of her mind. They always seemed to know the right thing to do; maybe she’d take a page from their book.
Lola settles down on the cement beside him, her hand shifting across his back. “Let it happen.” She makes her voice soft, raise a few notes higher than normal like her mother’s always did. “I know it hurts. No one likes to cry. But I’ll tell you a secret: the quickest way to settle down is to let go. You can’t force the tears back in, so you make them come out, you cry until there’s nothing left. I promise you’ll feel better after.”
