“Acting all nice and helpful– you’re just trying to make yourself feel accomplished.”
And there it was. Of course. With how quick Shoji had been to leave during their last encounter, Jun had had the slightest hope that maybe they could keep contact to a minimum while he was here - which admittedly kind of went against his reasons for visiting in the first place, although Shoji was an entirely different story from Chosaku anyway - but like most of his hopes when it came to family-anything, it didn’t last for very long.
Jun quickly scanned the room for possible escape routes, before his eyes settled on his brother. No, he couldn’t run this time, not after he’d promised himself he wouldn’t. He shrugged. “Why I do it doesn’t affect what you’re getting out of it, so I didn’t think you cared.”
“I don’t care about you.” Shoji sneered the emphasis. He’d gone after Jun, though, cornering him with the vague hope of reasserting the proper hierarchy of the household. Chosaku at the head, Shoji at his side, and Jun - Jun properly crushed underfoot. That might not be how Chosaku saw it, but it wasn’t fair that Jun could disobey and disrespect them for so long and just... walk back in and claim his spot.
“And you don’t care about our brother, either. You’re here to figure out what you can take him for, and I won’t stand for it. Why don’t you run back to your little friends, and never darken this door again.”
