IT'S YO BIRFDAY IT'S YO BIRFDAY IT'S YO BIRFDAY!!!!!! Hi I love you HAPPY BIRFDAY MY SISTA FROM ANOTHER MISTA!
IT’S MY BIIIIIIIIIIIRTHDAAAAAAAAAY!!!!! I LOVE YOU MY JOESHI!!!!! THANK YOU!!!
PARTYYYYYYYY!!!!
I'm having trouble, my sister from another mister. And I'm sure it's a trouble that you've noticed. You know that for the better part of a year now, I have been trying to write (and rewrite and rewrite) that novel of mine, but it's to a point now where I'm losing motivation to do any of it when I actually get the opportunity. When I actually have the time, I wind up distracted by about a million other things. And if that isn't the case, I'm just too tired. So how on earth do you stay so focused?
Hello, my Joeshi! In my case, I have the added little push of obligation with no safety net. If I don’t write, I don’t eat. Food is such a powerful motivator in life! The thought of not having enough of it makes me get my ass out of bed and write for 6-8 hours a day.
However, as we both know, there was a time not long ago when I was working a 9 to 5 and had the weight of the world on my shoulders running my own store. *shudders* Let’s not think about it. But even then, I still forced myself to make time for my writing. Here are a few things that helped me when I was “too busy/too tired” to write.
1. Become Scripturient. Scripturient - adj. Having a violent desire to write. I started to view writing not just as what I do, but as who I AM. I am a writer. When I was a retail manager? I was a writer. High school/college student? A writer. When I picked up a pencil and wrote down my first story? I became a writer. No matter what else you do, you are a writer because you write. Once you absorb that fact, you look at your 9 to 5 as the obligation that facilitates your ability to write. It keeps the roof over your head and puts food in your mouth. It buys pens and notebooks and affords you a working computer. Employment is an obligation, but writing is your actual J.O.B. because you are a writer and you write to truly live.
2. Set Word Count Goals. I always go into any project with a specific word count goal. And then I break that down into smaller daily goals. For me personally, I try to target 2000 words/day, 5 days/week. Set your goals based on your person ability and time schedule. Even 100 words/day is progress.
3. Set Time Goals. Promise yourself 30-60 minutes of writing time per day. When you’re working full time, the best time to steal your writing time is right before bed. Sit down, set a timer, and just write as much as you can in that time frame. You might hit your word goal, you might write one sentence. All that matters is that you’re writing forward.
4. Write Forward! Do not go back and reread what you already wrote and then edit what you already wrote and then decide that you hate it all and throw it out. You’re procrastinating when you do that. Keep writing forward. You know what happened 5 pages ago. You were there, you wrote it. Keep move forward. Leave the editing for your second draft.
5. Stop Watching TV. Okay, I’m kidding… Kinda. Television is distracting. Recording a single hour long drama on your dvr or catching it later on Hulu will buy you so many extra hours to write in your week. I don’t own a TV. It really helps with the focus to not be able to turn on a Honey Boo Boo or Say Yes to the Dress marathon and tune out of multiple hours of my life at a time. That doesn’t mean I don’t watch a bunch of TV shows. You know I do! Those two days a week that I’m not writing? Entertainment binge! I catch up on shows, watch movies, read books. Basically, use that time to plug into what’s going on in entertainment outside of my head.
6. Outline, outline, outline. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD OUTLINE. Did I mention you should outline? Even the most rough sketch of an outline that you completely ignore 90% of the time while you fly by the seat of your pants will save your ass when you hit a writers block wall. Come up with the things that need to happen in your story and then ignore it and run on instinct. But when you get lost, you still have your road map in your back pocket. OUTLINE!!!
7. Finish. Prioritize finishing. Know with a burning passion that all that really matters is reaching the finish line. I will hit this word goal. I will finish this chapter. I will reach this point in my outline. I will finish this story. And then it will take the time that it takes, but as long as you never stop, you will finish.
These are my main methods for staying focused and disciplined with my writing. If I had to add a bonus tip it would be: Coffee Is Your Friend.
Coffee loves you and so do I! Hope this helps!

I didn't even watch the VMAs and I can agree with all three of the above topics. I think Miley and Robin are both getting a bad rap for no reason right now. And I don't love Macklemore but he's doing what he wants to do. Haters to the left.
Couldn't have said it better. I just don't understand how people wanna sit in the backseat and try to drive lol.

I will literally never steal a loaf of bread if my life depends on it after seeing that movie!

I lose it when Gavroche is about to get shot and they're holding Courfeyrac back. It makes my heart die.
My heart was ripped out by then. I did have a moment when Javert put his pin on Gavroche. I almost stopped the movie like NOPE. NOPE.

If you don't cry for Eponine I'm pretty sure you have no soul -- poverty! Mental instability! So many tear-worthy-things! But no yes so many bitch faces I can't. Just. Giggling madly don't mind me.
Crazy family, unrequited love, sacrificing yourself for said love. How can you not cry for Eponine?! I AM EPONINE. MOST GIRLS ARE EPONINE. Ain't nobody got time for Cosette. lol! They're in the cafe talking revolution and I'm expecting cut away confessional shots with Enjolras like "This bitch Marius..." So many giggles!

He only actually took one drag. He did it accurately to how cigars are supposed to be smoked, yes, but, it's clear that he's doing his best not to really smoke. There's a huge tell with smoking/film. I'd get into it, but, word count limit...

Exactly what i was saying!
The initial one to light it and then no more actual smoking. I burst with a little pride about that and then I went... "What the actual hell is wrong with me?!" WHY WHY WHY AM I EMOTIONALLY INVESTED IN AARON TVEIT NOT SMOKING ON FILM!? This is who I am now.
