sleep paralysis is when the body is asleep and the mind is awake
I'm gonna fucking shit myself I worded that really frickin badly this is why I hate summarising sleep paralysis in less than 3000 words
To clarify, but that I mean not sleep sleep, but sleep functions. The brain goes into what it would normally do while it's sleeping (dreaming and all the shenanigans that entails) while the body is still conscious enough to process it (your eyes are still open). In a way, I guess it's more accurate to say both body and brain are half-asleep, half-awake at the same time (your brain sleeping enough to dream but awake enough to register sight as hallucinations; your body sleeping enough to be unable to move but awake enough to be aware and have your eyes open), but that takes several more words to explain.
Thanks for pointing out the clunky wording, though. I'm gonna go bang my head off a wall for a while.
