they all tell me i'm cracked out for shipping jeankai but they just don't GET IT
kai states in his fourth FTE that his primary motivation for continuing this career that has caused him so much pain is the Loyalty of his fans. not validation, but a support system. he feels obligated to repay the loyalty they continue to give him, and he values that loyalty over anything else he gets out of being an influencer.
and jean has a similar mindset! in his line of work, it is literally loyalty or death, because any mistrust between crew members could get people killed. he cites that loyalty is the thing keeping everyone alive, his crew being loyal to him and each other, and him being equally loyal to his crew. jean is all about the obligations and duty he has to his crew, that everyone on his ship have to each other.
yes, kai is scared of jean, especially in the Killing Game Scenario, but if they did warm to each other they would find that they value the same thing in their relationships which makes for a very strong foundation! and in particular, both of them do not just expect loyalty from others, but instead place importance on making the bond go both ways.
this isn't necessarily a moral thing for either of them as it is a safety thing (kai feeling like he owes his fans can be interpreted that he needs to give them a reason to keep supporting him since he also says they are all he has when he perceives that the whole world is against him, while jean states explicitly that he works in a field where everyone has to equally trust each other to survive life-threatening situations and that means his crew needs to trust him) but it's a shared value nonetheless
and That is why i like jeankai :3
