1) Who notices the other first?
They’re at a rally for a debt free college and Michonne is standing among the students. Rick notices her right away because 1) she’s beautiful and 2) she’s one of the few who isn’t being too vocal. He approaches her cautiously, “Hey. You really think this rally is going to do any good?” She looks over at him, noticing his extremely blue eyes. “I sure hope so. I’m one of the organizers.” She smiles at the surprised look on his face as she makes her way through the crowd to the podium.
2) Who makes the first move?
It was mutual. Rick is almost a little intimidated after the rally, but he notices her around campus and she drops into one of his focus groups for a Research Methods class. She sees him right away as he is the only person she recognizes. She makes a beeline for him and he hurriedly moves his backpack and books to make room for her on the couch. He smiles. “Hi. I’m Rick.” She returns the smile. “Michonne. Nice to meet you.” They end up agreeing to go for a latte after the group meeting and things kind of flowed from there.
3) Who causes the first fight?
Rick does. He starts slacking off with the focus group and Michonne is not having it. He doesn’t help matters by joking about it, either. Michonne is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to her college work, so she doesn’t understand why Rick is so flippant about it. He realizes how serious she is when she doesn’t return any of his calls or texts for an entire day. He shows up at her dorm, ready with his apology. She accepts after she sees how upset he is and after his promise to buckle down with the group assignments.
4) Who says “I love you” first?
Rick does. It was actually during Spring Break, sophomore year. Michonne decided to stay on campus as she was preparing for her first mock trial. Everything had to be on point. Rick and Shane had gone home, but imagine her surprise when Rick showed up at her dorm on Wednesday night. He wasn’t due back until Sunday, but he couldn’t stay away. That night, he took her out to dinner just to give her a well-deserved break from all the hard work she had been doing. They were cuddled up in his bed about to go to sleep when he whispered “I love you” in her ear.
5) Who keeps the other company (and sneaks in food) during all-nighters at the library?
Both. Michonne is definitely a motivator for Rick as he needs a nudge every now and then. He is her biggest supporter as he recognizes her need to achieve her goals, so he does what he can to help out.
6) Who calls the other everyday just to say “good morning” before they each head off to class?
Rick calls Michonne. She is the first person on his mind when he wakes up and the last person on his mind before he falls asleep.
7) Who gets sloppy drunk on their 21st birthday?
Both. Michonne is always so focused on work, so she just wants to let loose for once. Rick is there to enjoy seeing her be so free and the happiest drunk he has ever seen. As for Rick’s 21st b-day, he has his buddy, Shane, to thank for his drop down the rabbit hole. Michonne was there to witness it, of course.
8) Who stays calm during their pregnancy scare junior year?
Definitely Rick. He’s nervous, of course, but willing to step up and do what needs to be done if they are going to be parents. Michonne was totally freaking out. Luckily, it was just a scare and they were extra careful after that.
9) Who takes the other home to meet their parents first?
Rick does. His mom insists because he can’t stop gushing about Michonne whenever he’s home or even when he talks to his mom on the phone every other day.
10) Who suggests they move in together their senior year?
Michonne. Spending the night at his place almost every night and waking up beside him in the mornings was something she had gotten used to, so when her lease was about to end, she brought it up and Rick was all for it.
BONUS QUESTION:
Who cries when Rick proposes to Michonne at their joint graduation dinner?
She starts crying as soon as she sees him drop to one knee in front of everybody. He is a bundle of nerves, so before he can get a word out, his eyes start to tear up because he can see how happy she is. He manages to ask the question and she says yes, of course.
