The score “Joe” by Jeff Mcilwain and David Wingo is nothing but pure soundscape design. Although you will hear a certain repeated motif that is first introduced in “Sharpening Knives”, the overall score is made up of sonic textures, sparse piano and unnerving tones. In the film, the score works well and most people don’t seem to realize the effort it takes into creating good sound design that matches a scene or character’s mood. Wingo and Mcilwain pull it off with this one but the listener has to be in a certain mood and/or appreciate sound design scoring to fully enjoy it - 6.5/10.
